Guest jellywobbles Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 Does anyone know if SwiftKey will run on the Vega? Anyone tried it yet? http://www.swiftkey.net/ I run it on my HTC Desire & it is without doubt the very best keyboard I have ever used! Cheers
Guest removed-14 Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 I use SwiftKey on my Desire too (nice update today!) but use Smart Keyboard Pro on my Vega as it allows for key height adjustment. I might install it tonight to have ago. Why not do the same jellywobbles?

Cheers Tony - when I get home I'll give it a whirl - if I can find out how to do it! :) Only got my Vega yesterday & spent most of last night trying to get Paul's ROM installed :) All sorted now tho! Cheers JellyW

It transforms the Vega - no keyboard bounce &typing is a real pleasure. The predictave text capability is superb. Highly recommend :-)

Highly recommend :-) Just installed SwiftKey and this is the only thing I've typed so far but immediately impressed. Was using gingerbread keyboard prior to that. Really nice colors too. Default settings are fine too. I could keep on typing..........

I'm trying SwiftKey but I confess that the button shape and size is making it more difficult than the standard keyboard for me and I seem to keep hitting the period button rather than spacebar. I'm glad it's. Available as a trial (there's an example!)

Guest phil-t Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 (edited) I've gone back to the original keyboard i just couldnt get on with swiftkey at all. Makes me realise how good the standard keyboard is! I've just tried swiftkey and now trying smart keyboard pro, and both seem to work really well. In fact the key height and calibration of smart keyboard seem really good, it took a little setting. Up to get just right, and having more longpress choices Ala HTC keyboard, and customer layouts would make it perfect! But I might buy it, its working out much better for me. Up to get just right, and having more longpress choices Ala HTC keyboard, Haha, typed on the Swiftkey by any chance?! I kept getting the predictive bit adding a fullstop, space and capital letter when I didn't want it! I found I was spending ages going back and editing what I had written to make it what I actually wanted. I find the standard keyboard fine, but I would prefer white rather than black keys. I might try the Gingerbread keyboard
Guest removed-14 Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 Tried my full copy of SwiftKey last night and I think I might go back to Smart Keyboard Pro as the key height adjustment is pretty much a must. If SwitftKey had that it might just edge it.

I found Swiftkey completely unusable - it's really interesting we have different experiences of the same products...

SwiftKey works by far the best for prediction, especially on my HTC Desire.

This might as a result of to the Swiftkey settings - you can configure it so when you are typing, hitting SPACE auto-completes the word with the suggestion (SwiftKey / Setings / Input Settings / AutoComplete) or AutoAccept. I'm a fan of SwiftKey on phone handset and will use it on my Vega (when I get it).

Guest phil-t Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 (edited) Ok thanks for that. However i find the keys ttoo small aswell so i guess I'll stick to the standard one for now Well I've been using both now all day, and Smart Keyboard Pro certainly seems better for me. You are right, I was getting caught out by the auto fullstops on a double space, this conflicted for me with the auto space insertion on selecting auto completed words. Obviously, you can turn it off, as I've now done, and with some other tweaks, its a huge improvement over stock.. The main improvements for me are, 1. Better autocomplete and dictionary, with lots of predictive choices shown. 2. Long press numbers/symbols on the ABC page. (It still has the seperate numbers/symbols pages) 3. Ability to calibrate, this fixed my issues getting 'l' when backspacing on the standard keyboard. 4. Cursor keys (2 key presses required to get to them) 5. Several themes supplied, so you can choose a look that suits 6. Key height adjustment means you can have it as large as the standard one, or smaller to suit you. (HTC theme doesn't work properly with large keys) 7. Tons of configurability, gestures, etc I'll definitely be buying it! Each to their own, it takes some retyping, but it is configurable enough to pretty much cater for all.. [Edit] In fact, I was just wondering if the arrows could be accessed any easier, and I just bound the swipe up gesture to toggle arrows, brilliant.. Edited December 17, 2010 by phil-t
