Hi,

I got a Desire that I have rooted and I just tried to istall the latest update fra HTC. I should never have tried to do this, as my phone now only reboots. I never comes into the actually OS only the plain HTC screen.

I've tried to download an "update.zip" file but then I only get this picture. I guess this can't be good.

Is there any chanche to get it working again?

error.jpg

I triede with the file from clockwork recovery, but this on the screen. Any suggestions?

long time since I rooted so can not even remember if this is the correct screen, but have you tried "Volume Up then Power Button" then "Apply sdcard:update.zip" to get into recovery which i am guessing is update.zip on your sdcard, or am I wide off the mark..

you could download the clockwork recovery update zip from here, but it might be outdated now but its a start, the only way I can think of you getting it onto ur sdcard is remove from your phone and use a usb sdcard reader to copy it to the card., then try it. Also I don't want to get too far ahead but look into a program called unrevoked not sure if you used this to root or not or it will actually work but it might pull you out the s***.

I also tried this, please see the second picture I've attached in the first post.

Installing an OTA onto a rooted phone removes root, what OTA was it you were trying??

Another example of why you shouldn't flash an OTA onto a rooted phone as it tends to go tits up, a bit of reading on the subject would've told you this. You might have to use an RUU to go back to stock or get the OTA file, rename it update.zip and flash it like you tried before

Then we were two stupid people. :)

Now it seems like I have to start with downgrading the bootloader (I now have 0.92) to be able to install the update.zip via recovery mode. But since the guide below doesn't work I don't know where to start:

http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...owngrade-hboot/

Step 2 regarding cid generator doesn't work anymore, new link needed.

Can someone recommend a RUU with a bootloader version number 0.80 or lower that I can downgrade to so that I can follow this guide:

http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...o-1-21-support/

Cheers if someone knows 1: Where to get a CID generator? 2: What RUU to use?

To the OP...

Before you boot into Recovery, what does the HBOOT screen? Does it say S-OFF by chance??

A lot of people are seeming to get factory unlocked bootloaders and can't root so check and post back

@skallepar: You don't need to downgrade your HBOOT anymore. Unrevoked should work fine on all versions of HBOOT.

I really don't know where to start. First of all I am a true beginner at this (guess i wouldn't have ended up in this mess if it wasn't for that)

Like the first guy who posted this thread I can't get to the clockwork recovery mode, instead I get the red triangle/exclamationmark sign and the android recovery mode where I can't do s***, or the only thing that works is wipe data etc, if i try to install update. zip i get the same message as the first guy.

I have switched computer since I rooted my phone hence I dont have the Android 1.0 drivers installed anymore. When I try to download the driver separatly and install it manually through Device manager it refuses to accept the driver that I have found. This is while I am in the rootmenu of the bootloader with the choises of fastboot, recovery, simlock etc.

If I go into the fastboot menu device manager installs something called HTC bootloader, is that correct?

Is this Ok? what is the next step?

What ROM was your phone running before you rooted it? You need to find the RUU of this to get back to stock

I had actually just gone back to the latest original HTC froyo (before the OTA that came 2-4 days ago that is). I guess this is why I got the update question...

Try to flash the first RUU you find, then re-root with Unrevoked. It's the best solution

But how do i flash it when i get this screen when trying?

The phone is on and i am in fastboot mode, the driver that i am using is listed in device manager as android bootloader interface, dont know if thats correct?

On top of this i have downloaded the SDK R8 to get ADB but i cant find it in the tools folder, where is it????????

In fact, I never flashed a RUU... But I think you have to install HTC Sync to have the correct drivers, and then just run it. Perhaps you can try to do the same but in fastboot mode, the used driver will not be the same

In which case you should be on 2.10.405.2. OK, to get back to stock when your PC won't connect do the following:

1. Down the 2.10.405.2 RUU from Shipped-ROMs.com

2. Once downloaded start the RUU and when at the first main screen move the window to the bottom of the screen (otherwise it'll stay on top of everything else)

3. Click 'Start>Run' and type

%temp%

And click 'OK'

4. Browse to the newest folder created in that folder

5. Copy the ZIP file called 'Rom' to your Desktop

6. Rename it PB99IMG (so the full file name is PB99IMG.zip but not PB99IMG.zip.zip)

7. Copy it to the root of your SD card

8. Turn off your phone and turn it on again whilst holding the volume down button

9. The phone should boot into HBOOT and read the ZIP file and ask you to start the update. Assuming it does, follow the instructions and once done you'll be back to 100% stock 2.10.405.2

10. Once back up and running get the 2.29.405.2 OTA using your Wi-Fi connection
