do I need to simunlock?

I just got my phone back from HTC warranty repair and whatever they did, it came back with a new IMEI number. At present I have UnrEVOked to get root but before I put a custom ROM on, I want to be sure I wont "lock myself out" as I already tried a couple of online unlockers and neither had an unloack code for my IMEA (and that fiasco is a whole nother story).

If I keep my current Radio and only update the rest of the ROM, will the device remain as is, locked to Orange and no asking me for a code to carry on locked to orange?

I ask this as, when I went from Eclair to Froyo originally (while also debranding), I had to upgrade the Radio as well and locked myself out of my own network!

Many thanks

David

I'd be interested to hear how this is answered too, I presume you've got a newer Desire (post August) so be interested to see what the responses are.

(Sorry, can't offer any help - in a similar position to you!)

The desire itself is from April 2010 (well that's when I bought it) but the warranty repair must have swapped some innards as it came back with a new IMEI number, so effectively yes, I think to all intents and purposes, a new post August phone.

Fingers crossed someone knows the answer.....

how do you know if ur phone is sim locked anyway, best thing to do is try a dif sim in it maybe to see if it comes up and asks you for a code. if it doesn't and don't quote me on this since I am not 100% sure then flashing a radio won't sim lock it. Ofc i could be wrong.. but id take the risk.

David - if you do sim unlock, I can recommend htcimeiunlock.com. Their online checker prior to purchase is very comforting, and service was very quick. Well worth the money.
