Guest phil-t Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) Hi, One thing that is bugging me is that especially using Launcher Pro, but even using the stock launcher, the static wallpapers look really low rent.. I understand that for a 1024*600 screen, you need a 1024*1200 image (for scrolling purposes).. So doing that is easy enough, and putting it on the SD Card is easy enough.. But i understand that if you just select Wallpapers, then go through the gallery to pic your own image, it somehow crops/ruins it when setting it as a wallpaper.. So does anyone know where to place or how to get some 1:1 pixel perfect images to show up under the normal 'wallpaper' selection? Or more importantly, what messes up the wallpapers so they look all pixellated? Is it the small notification bar mod? Does that throw the built in wallpapers out in terms of aspect ratio so the software re-scales them in some odd way? [edit1] In fact, thinking about it all, since these devices are used in both portrait and landscape, you have differing requirements for image size, e.g. Portrait you'd need a 1024 * 1200 image (H x W) for a scrollable image but in Landscape, you'd need a 600* 2048 (H xW) for a scrollable image.. So for a launcher that allows rotation of the homescreens, you'd think you need either 2 images, or one big 1200 * 2048 image.. to cover it all.. Edited December 16, 2010 by phil-t
Guest MonkeyBoy451 Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) I'm having the same issues - cant seem to get it right.... Image I use looks ok on the lock screen, but then when I unlock - its zoomed in and ruined. :) Edit - added some images for reference. Edit 2 - and it would appear that once the image is zoomed, then it stays like that even on the lock screen too. Edited December 16, 2010 by MonkeyBoy451

What size are the images? I think I'll try 1200*2048 and put some 'squares' or a ruler on the image and see what it's actually selecting.. I might need to take into account the notification bar height in e.g. if it's 30 pixels, then the image in theory may need to be 1140 * 1988.. Shame I'm stuck at work... I'll be giving this some experimentation tonight..

I'll also be having a play later - want to get some HD quality images on there.
Guest thedicemaster Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 i installed an app "wallpaper chooser" for setting a wallpaper. it still zooms in a little, but at least it doesn't overly pixelate the image. wallpaper chooser will use the full height of the image in portrait, and in most images about 80% of the width/height in landscape on the vega.

The slight zooming in might be just the image size.. If you look at this http://geekdrop.com/content/how-to-create-android-wallpaper You can kind of see the 'regions' it's using of the original image for Landscape and Portrait, so I think perhaps going with a super large image is going to work better..
Guest thedicemaster Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 too bad we can't use the built-in wallpaper picker(the one where you horizontally slide through a list of wallpapers) for custom wallpapers. i use only 1 screen and it would've been nice if it was possible to just use a 1024x1024 or even a 1024x600(landscape-lock) wallpaper fullscreen. the default picker uses actual sizes, which for example causes high dpi/resolution devices to show the standard wallpaper with a black frame around it.
Guest bearded1 Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 i quickly whipped this one up in paint from a doodle i did.. now i have it on my desktop at work now - pissing off the apple users :)
