Desire Noob - quick questions - late manu handset PVT4?

Been doing a bit of reading on the Desire, and it looks like it's slightly different to the other Android devices to root/flash etc.. Am I right in thinking that to do so I need to:

1) Create a gold card

2) UnrEVOke it (or whatever)

3) Apply custom ROM using Clockwork

I've got hold of a newer Desire, meaning it's probably PVT4 so the older guides and such might not apply. However from what I've read the above seems to make sense, any advances?

Unlock wise, htcimeiunlocks.com looks like the one I'm going to use - anyone tried that?

Cheers, did have a search around on here and XDA-Developers but couldn't find a specific answer regarding the later handsets.

Cheers chap, I did see that earlier but read that as it was fair straight forward to unrEVOke. I'm only speculating I have a late PVT4 handset, I'm presuming it is as it's a black one from Orange.
