Guest 2old2mould Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 Hello All, Has anyone tried to flash the GB keyboard onto their Vega? I've tried using Clockwork but after the install process and the Vega starts unpacking the file it stops. Any ideas? 2o2m.
Guest MonkeyBoy451 Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 Yeah I would love to try the Gingerbread keyboard (with english predictive/etc) on my Vega too.
Guest harmohn Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 I'm currently using it & it works rather well! ...flash via recovery :)Fabolous_GBKB_Fix.zip
Guest MonkeyBoy451 Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 I'm currently using it & it works rather well! ...flash via recovery :) Thanks for the link - but having a few issues with clockwork etc not flashing properly, so going to wait a little longer in the hope that Paul will create and .APK like he did with the Gingerbread launcher... ;)
Guest warriorscot Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 Just noticed you can get an .apk of the gingerbread keyboard over at XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875202 trying it out on mine. I miss transparency from smart keyboard pro but it is significantly better for picking up key presses and no doubles or anything like that so far.

I much prefer smart keyboard pro ... just being able to set the key height is enough reason to use it. And with the ipad skin I am halfway there!
Guest greenie-uk Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 Smart keyboard is much better. Keys too small and cramped on the gingerbread keyboard. Doesn't prevent multiple key presses either because its got nothing to do which kb is used unfortunately

Doesn't prevent multiple key presses either because its got nothing to do which kb is used unfortunately Depends on the reason for the multiple key presses for me its not so much the vega but my big hands. It's small but so far the ginger bread keyboard actually picks up the right key presses more often than smart keyboard pro with its smaller buttons. From what I read the touch recognition in 2.3 is generally better but the keyboard apparently had a lot of work done on its basic operation its not just a reskin of the 2.2 keyboard. So while it doesn't eliminate the cause of the multiple key presses it should go some way to compensating for them.
Guest surly cat Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Try SlideIT Keyboard. It's much better than Smart Keyboard Pro or Gingerbread. Pressing keys is rather passe when you can slide.

Guest surly cat Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 I use slideit on my Desire but find sliding over 10inches quite hard work! Well, that's because you're used to sliding on such a small screen. I don't find sliding over 10" hard work at all; it's very quick and easy -- certainly less tiring than pressing individual keys! I tried a sliding keyboard on a friend's smartphone recently and found the tiny keys rather awkward and cramped. What I love about sliding on a bigger screen is the accuracy. I've been using SlideIT as my main keyboard app for nearly two weeks now and it's NEVER displayed the wrong word or made a mistake. :(
Guest s.morris Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) Hi Guys Well I have installed the GB key board, but when i go into gmail to test it the key board looks the same as the stock item, I have gone into key boards and checked the GB key board, I do I make the GB key board default or check that its bneing used :( Steve Edited December 30, 2010 by s.morris
Guest warriorscot Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 When the keyboard pops up do a long press in the input area and it will show a pop up menu, go to input method in that menu then change it to gingerbread keyboard.
Guest s.morris Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) Thanks warriorscot Now that I have seen it, think the keys are to small :( Steve Edited December 30, 2010 by s.morris
Guest Marshy84 Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Thanks warriorscot Now that I have seen it, think the keys are to small :( Steve I really like the Gingerbread keyboard but I have to agree, I wish there was an option to resize the keys.
