Guest gameSTICKER Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 (edited) This app will give you onscreen softkeys for Home, menu, Back and Search android hardware keys. Working fine on my Blade. I guess I can worry less about my Blade hardware keys now and can finally sleep in peace at nights :) HOME: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865525 Edited December 19, 2010 by gameSTICKER
Guest gameSTICKER Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 I've got access to source code, over the weekend I'll try to create an always on version like this:
Guest oh!dougal Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 Errr.... ummmm ... This is only going to work when the screen is on, kinda hammering the battery ...
Guest gameSTICKER Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 Errr.... ummmm ... This is only going to work when the screen is on, kinda hammering the battery ... Still better than my thumbs hammering the keys :) seriously speaking, I'll have to read through original forums to see what users think about battery, and will have to dig into the code to see if its a battery eater. As long as its working on events, it should not be a battery issue.
Guest Rem1x Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 How I think it should work, in easy to understand rubbish-o-vision.
Guest Fi5h Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 Errr.... ummmm ... This is only going to work when the screen is on, kinda hammering the battery ... When would you need to use it when the screen is off? Good job it only works when the screen is on :) I just installed it - works well, tho I wish you could set it to the bottom of the screen as well as the sides.
Guest AndyHibberd Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 I installed this recently and it is really useful: Clutch: http://www.appbrain.com/app/clutch-beta/co...albright.clutch It overlays the whole system and is a barely noticeable little arrow that when I press it it pops up with running/recent apps. Maybe get in touch with him to add hard-key features? He has responded well to my suggestions before. Andy
Guest cartierv Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 great idea, especially with the sf's shitty keys
Guest rwalton159 Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 Can someone please upload the file and put a link to it in here. I'm having probs with email and cant register on xda-developers Thank you

Guest rwalton159 Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 I think it's on the market Thanks :) I had to rebuild my SF's apps / software as I couldn't download from the Market.
Guest geegeethatsme Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 I use Button Savior on the left edge of my screen and Clutch Beta on the right - the former provides 'navigation' without using the phone's buttons, and the latter provides a handy 'stack' of recent apps so that you can flick back and forth. Both require some adaptation of your 'style' of use of the phone. Clutch Beta will set you back 60p ($0.99) but that's pennies to support a potentially winning app.
Guest strumluff Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) Wow Button Savior is great, I had to send my 1st blade back because the back button was broken, this makes me a happy chappy. Would love to see an implementation like Rem1x suggested. Edited December 19, 2010 by strumluff
Guest rwalton159 Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 It takes a little bittle of practice to use but its worth using, especially as you can set it to auto hide. :)
Guest gameSTICKER Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 I've got access to source code, over the weekend I'll try to create an always on version like this: Allright, my code is all set, I have a no-nonsense super simple back button in lower right corner. Just need the script for back button emulation... Can anyone help me?

Andy I get a dialog with running and recent apps when I hold the home button for a few seconds. Button saviour doesn't seem to work for me. It runs, but it shows a cross with a circle, an arrow, four quares, a home and a magnifying glass. Only the home button works, the other buttons only give vibration feedback. How can I simulate my hardware buttons with this app? Edited December 19, 2010 by -DarkShadow-

I suppose they are kinda context sensitive; back only goes back if you have something to go back to. 4 squares should bring up the settings/options for whatever app you're in (menu)

Guest Rotmann Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 I have found an alternative in the market called "SoftKeys". Pretty fiddly to configure but much more configurable than button savior (virtual d-pad, horizontal position, button size adjust, button background, etc.), make sure you read the instructions before.

Button savior is perfectly stable also button savior is busy making dpad.
Guest Rotmann Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 (edited) Yeah it's stable, the only thing that bothers is that you can not modify the size of the damn buttons. If I could only make them a little smaller or set them closer, the P on the HTC IME Keyboard is under the power off button and I keep pressing that when typing (already set it to be at the highest position on the screen). Also, look at softkeys, the keys are beautiful (Android typical), you can set the transparency levels, etc. But it does not have the switch off button, crazy. The perfect app for software buttons would be a mixture between these two. Edited January 24, 2011 by Rotmann
Guest lazyliam Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 anyone got a link for button saviour no on xda the site p***** me right off ive regesteried all to download the little app and now its not leting me download something to do with not haivng 10 posts im not sure any help much appreaciated
Guest jasonXXx Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Hmm i sead it was stable but im now using sebs de_crossed r0.2 and button savior is now crazy i can get it working about 1 in 3 reboots most of the time i press a button after reboot and it does not do anything so i press again and it stops my screen from responding untill i press home than screen works but i need to reboot to get button savior working again.
