Step by step guide to USB Host

I am on the R8 release and tried using USB Switcher last night. I also got the 'Starting Fastboot USB download Protocol' error and hang as described by previous posters.

Extrememonkey: I had to reflash and reinstall everything from scratch to get it going again, losing all my apps, settings etc. I've only just got the tablet so it wasn't a huge problem for me, but I will be taking a backup next time!

I'm beginning to thinjk I'm an idiot. After failing miserably to install the USB switcher (Paul's) I tried the gscript version. For some reason my Vega is not beint detected and adb devices shows no Vega attached, so step 5 in the guide is a bust!!!!!

We've nearly ALL been there and it's a pain but persevere, you will get there!

Your USB drivers are probably wrong in device manager on the PC.

EDIT: If all else fails you may want to try "abdwireless". (assuming you have a wireless system at home?) I've used that a couple of times.

Wow, that's a lot of help stuff in there, thanks.

Sadly it made no difference, I still have no USB Host action. (I'd actually done this twice; took the Vega back to the raw, out of the box, state and then re-installed the drivers from the same files you referenced, applied the mod and .... nowt. No USB pluggery.

:(

Sadly I've got so much stuff on the thing now that I'm loth to play with it any more. Me and the wife are considering a shared dock for hom, which I'm assured (yeah, right) will allow USB Host mode. My only worry is how it will recognise two independant and different tablets!

I had this problem too - try putting 1.08 on it then Pauls r8 - this has worked fine for me on two Vega's now. I don't know why because I've read that Pauls r8 wipes the firmware anyway but I had it not working on two 1.09 vega's then working fine on both vega's after reflashing to 1.08 then applying r8

R8 is a full Rom 1.08 included, you just need to flash the r 8 and not before the rom

nothing, I installed vega rom 1.08 than paul's r8 but usb host doesn't seem work. my usb pendrive didn't detect and 3g usb dongle too but mobii works fine in usb slave

Hi, Buzzlad,

Major problem. Followed all your instructions (I think) correctly. In Gscript added bothj USB Host and USB Slave. Then clicked on USB Host as you instruct - got a dialog box asking for SU permission. Clicked Allow. The Vega told me it is going to re-boot into recovery mode.

It did go into recovery with the little Adroid figure popping out of the box on the screen. Did not know what to do with that, so powered down, then tried to re-boot normally. It now hangs on "booting ...." and will not progress.

I can go into Recovery Mode with the normal button sequence, but when connected to a XP Windows machine it will only show up as NVIDIA USB boot-recovery driver.

How do I recover it?

I could try re-flashing the 1.09 rom, then Paul's r8, then have to load all the apps back. I would clearly prefer to avoid that if possible.

Any suggestions. Can I somehow correct the bootscript in recovery mode?

I bought a Vega last week and I've successfully installed the R8 rom (fantastic). I'd like to get USB host working, are the instructions in post #1 of this thread still the way to do it?

OK, I'm an idiot.... I think I must have uninstalled "USB Mode" (I'll blame the kids), anyway I copied "com.modaco.vegausbmode.apk" onto the sdcard and installed it, now I'm sorted.
