Usb Problem

Hi Folks,

I have installed the PC Suite, I have Huawei U8220 with android 1.5 bought in Uruguay.

It charges the battery when I plug it, but the computer ignores it and there is not notification at the top bar of the phone either.

Any insights? What do you guys think the problem is, hardware or softare related?

PS: I got it second hand, so I don't know if it used to work before.

I'm using windows 7. I tried Ubuntu at a virtual machine and no luck either.

I used this free app http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html to check the usb connected to my computer and there is no sign of it :)

I believe that this is a hardware problem.

Is there any way to flash my rom using anything other than usb? ssh maybe?

I know I could flash it to the official 2.1 rom but I'd like to keep a copy of my stock one.

Well, you can always root the phone (z4root, it's in the Market), install ROM Manager (also in the Market), flash Clockwork Recovery and now that you have a recovery installed you can start installing ROMS.

But I can't install z4root, I get the "z4root could not be installed" error message. Even tried running after a fresh reboot. Are you aware of any other app I could use to root my 1.5 android?

If I install the official 2.1 update I will lose my stock rom forever right?

I couldn't find my sotck rom(from Ancel, uruguay) anywhere on the web...

Universal Androot works with like 99% of android phones.

Their compatible list is just a sample of all the compatible phones.

I mean I actually downloaded and installed it, tried all versions, none of them worked.

have you tried using another usb cable? i recently bought 3 microusb cables from ebay and none of them work as data connection, they only charge the battery. give it a try with another cable.

Anyway, I was able to upgrade to the swede official 2.1 and z4root worked, I'll install rom manager and get custom roms now.

What custom rom would you guys recommend for my U8220-6 ?

FLB-Mod is the best 2.1 ROM, and it's probably the best for a beginner in custom ROMS.
