Guest gravy1 Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 (edited) hi, I bought a san francisco and unlocked it, but got no internet with my tesco sim until I added a new apn. All was wonderful until I wanted to ditch the orange bloatware, I downloaded launcher pro and home switcher which work great for a few hours then all my icons disappeared and I had no internet connection. I've uninstalled both apps but still no internet connection.... any ideas how to get the internet back ? should I restore factory settings or should I just buy a phone a little easier to configure ;-) Edited December 18, 2010 by gravy1
Guest gravy1 Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Just to add... I do get a wifi connection just no internet on its own
Guest targetbsp Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 (edited) I bet it didn't considering pretty much everyone on the planet uses it without such a problem. :) How do you even figure it as the cause when you say it happened a few hours after putting it on? I don't think it even has the permissions to play with internet settings. Have you checked the APN you added is still present and correct? Is data connection ticked in settings? Are you in the same physical location as earlier (ie. are you sure you're somewhere where you can get a 3g signal?) As for the icons are you aware you can change screen by swiping left and right? You didn't just swipe onto a blank screen did you? Edited December 18, 2010 by targetbsp

APN exactly the same Data connection ticked exactly the same place Icons were replaced with + + + + + not a blank screen putting the orange sim back in retrieves the internet connection and when I change back to tesco sim it stays a few hours then I have to repeat each time. No problems before Launcher pro and home switcher.... and those 2 apps were the only ones installed in 24 hours before problem... in addition (not sure if this is relevant but) every time I try to connect it says there's a problem with my google account....
Guest Arr Too Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 when I change back to tesco sim In my experience, when you change the SIM you need to login again to your Google account. Opening any of the main Google apps ought to tell you this and prompt for your password.

You didn't just swipe onto a blank screen did you? quick update Restored factory settings, installed every previously installed app except home switcher and launcher pro and internet is perfect again on tesco network. targetbsp: I'm pretty sure that pretty much everyone on the planet does not use it. considering a large percentage of the planet do not own a mobile phone and most of the rest do not have phones capable of running apps and not everyone who has got an app useable phone has launcher pro, so we're definitely talking a lot lot less than 1% of the planet. I do not "figure" it caused the problem I merely followed a process of elimination and as no problem existed prior to the installation and launcher pro's icons disappeared as opposed to the orange icons it was supposed to remove it seems obvious the app itself failed on my phone. confirmed now by the perfect running again without the 2 malfunctioning apps. What caused the malfunction I have no idea... maybe an error while installing or a conflict with another app but it is all ok again. All we need now are restore points on phones to save time and effort.... anyone writing the app ?
Guest mrgubby Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 are you saying that Launcher pro broke the internet or that it lost/deleted the internet shortcut ?
Guest Flumpster Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Icons were replaced with + + + + + The reason they were replaced with that is because by default launcher pro has 3 lots of bottom icons that you can scroll thru left and right. The other 2 are all +'s until you change them to what you want them to do. Either you or someone else has scrolled to the side and not realized or you set it in preferences to only show 1 and then selected it to show just the one with the +'s on.
Guest gravy1 Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 are you saying that Launcher pro broke the internet or that it lost/deleted the internet shortcut ? Launcher pro did not "break" or "lose" my connection, nor delete my shortcut. I'm saying that my phone worked perfectly before installing home switcher and launcher pro.... Then shortly after installing, my launcher pro icons disappeared from my homescreen and were replaced by + signs (which can be configured to be any shortcut you want) and I could not connect to the internet except via wifi after switching off and on.... I got the orange homepage selector (which along with orange mail is one of the two orange tools I set to disable with launcher pro) do you have to select them every time you switch off and on... I'm sure you do not which leads to the fact that something was wrong with the app or my installation. switching sims back to orange and then back to tesco (after uninstalling both apps) gave me an internet connection again but as soon as a signal was lost and found again, no connection could be made except via wifi or sim switching. the factory reset has cured all problems but how or why it occured is most odd. I can only assume either my phone is faulty or an error while installing caused a glitch.
Guest gravy1 Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Flumpster. Nobody had touched the phone and in addition a duplicate maps icon and googlemail icon had appeared
Guest Flumpster Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 (edited) It is so easy to flick them over to the next set by accident mate. I had it set like this originally and turned it off because I kept switching to a set I didn't want (go to flick a homescreen left or right and be a little too low and make the bottom bar scroll instead.) The Home screens also change depending on what launcher you are on. So if you set up all your widgets, icons etc in normal launcher and then switched to the launcher pro they would be gone and replaced by the ones set up for that launcher. (which by default is the maps icon and google mail icon on mine) Edited December 18, 2010 by Flumpster
