Guest Buchtis Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Hi everyone, an Android noob here :) I'm new to this Smartphone business and i'm loving this phone so far but i've not got a clue on the Android OS and how to update it. There's so many ROM's out there I don't have a clue which one to choose I'm looking for something that will get rid of all the Orange crap installed on the phone whilst still having full functionality and not being glitchy. I'm wondering if there's any software I could use to delete some of the crap installed on it I don't use. When I go into Task Manager on the SF, there's a stupid amount of crap running in the background that I don't use, I want to turn it off permanently if possible. I'm basically looking for the best ROM that is the fastest and most up to date if that's possible, and a noob friendly guide on how to install them. Thanks!
Guest dingdong3000 Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 (edited) welcome! have a look at http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-san-francisco/ to get rid of all the orange junk without rooting. To use any of the ROM's you'll need to root it which is fairly simple so have a look around the forum you'll find instructions on how to root it. In terms of choosing a ROM it depends on preference as to what you'd like to have. Edited December 18, 2010 by dingdong3000

Guest radeonuk Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 i wanted to use that Modaco Custom ROM but i have TFT screen which hopefully be compatible soon. I have a TFT model and the alpha3 works fine, I haven't had any problems with this ROM.
Guest Buchtis Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Sorry forgot to add that I have the TFT screen too, are the above links still valid for my phone?

Guest Buchtis Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Try what? There's nothing there to click :) I've read a load of guides on here but i've still no idea what to do in terms of flashing and updating, is there any videos on YouTube for the TFT screen model?
Guest gusthy Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 i wanted to use that Modaco Custom ROM but i have TFT screen which hopefully be compatible soon. You mean MCR Eclair, or MCR Blade? MCR Eclair is not compatible with TFT, MCR Froyo is. But if you are totally noob, I don't recommend you to use Froyo, it has many glitches yet. For Eclair (2.1), I recommend Finnish Fillyjonk RLS3 or Blade Villain, I prefer the first for it has a very good custom kernel.
Guest Buchtis Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Just watched this video: But it won't recognize the device because i'm running Windows XP x64. Is there any drivers for the Blade for XP x64 bit?

Guest insurgente Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 just got my hands on me san fran so I thought I'd post here rather than start a new thread... seems a bit jerky right now :/. like scrolling between screens, and youtube videos... i'm a n00b and it's right out of the box.. i'm still playing with it with the orange sim inside (£10 credit already on it without me doing anything...they've stepped up)... once i've got it unlocked ans trip the Orange crap off it, will it be faster? Or will getting one of these custom ROMs on it make it sleeker and quicker?

Guest tdodd Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 I was an Android virgin until the end of September. To be honest I'm not really interested in installing another ROM until I can see some genuine value in doing so. I have the stock ROM working perfectly well, having manually deleted the pointless Orange apps, and until there is a rock solid Froyo or Gingerbread ROM I'm more than happy to stay as I am. Battery life is good. Operation is generally smooth. It does all I need it to. I think those working hard to get us the new and improved ROMs deserve an enormous amount of credit for their efforts and their skill, but I prefer to have a fully working phone rather than an experimental development machine. YMMV.
