Root with Unrevoked??

Does anyone know if running Unrevoked on my phone will give me root permissions in the current rom?

I have run Unrevoked on a friends' Desire (both Windows and Mac), and although Clockworkmod gets pushed to the phone, and I can get into that, and it functions fine (ran a nandroid backup), the rom on his phone has no root rights yet.

This is the stock rom.

My question is: should Unrevoked give you root permissions in the current stock rom? If it should, is not having root permissions yet, a sign that Unrevoked hasn't done its job properly?

Or can I safely flash a new rom on my mates phone?? Clockworkmod seems to function fine.

Ok sorted.

Don't know if there was a problem, but I've succesfully installed new roms on it, that do have root access.
