Guest RedMum Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 I'll try and be brief, I am a complete novice so be gentle! Got my San fran from Argos a few days ago, after reading rave reviews on here which I found through a google search. I wanted a cheap android phone (well an iphone really but they are way overpriced for me). So this looked like a great alternative. i got the unlock code through here, didn't put the orange sim in. i put my 3 network one in and it worked like a dream. i played about with the phone for a few days, my daughter downloaded some apps, about 15 or so. I didn't take the phone out of the house as I had another one to use until I got used to this one. I was just using the phone when it went all strange. it was really shaky, like something was clashing. i turned it off and waited and restarted it again. It had set itself back to the orange front screen with the analogue clock, we had changed it to the digital one and was still shaky, really shaky, just about unusable. i looked in task manager and it had booted up with all 15 apps running and more, I know i never had all them running at once as i am always careful to close everything down. It was really hard to close them down in task manager as the screen was so shaky, but as i killed them the phone gradually got more stable. It was fine and useable again. last evening i went out and took the phone with me. I had nothing running and did not switch the phone off, i had plenty of battery but 10 mins after leaving the house the phone was all unstable again and i hadn't touched it. i got someone to phone me but it was as if my phone was turned off. again i really struggled even to power it off, and when it turned on again it was still as bad, again I looked in task manager and all apps had switched themselves on and lots of other orange junk, live wallpapers etc which i have never touched. again i got it stable and useable, but i am a bit nervous and lost a bit of faith in it now. today the same thing happened when i went out. I am in a good signal area and that is not the problem. Did I have to do something else other than just unlock and put my sim in? It is a PAYG sim with credit that works great when the phone is stable, able to make and recieve calls and text etc. I can surf the internet . The sim works in my old (non Android) 3g phone. I don't understand about flashing, or booting and don't want to do that unless necessary. It lloks like there is a clash to me, when the phone freaks out and loads everything and can't cope. so is the phone faulty or somthing I have done or need to do. Please any help will be much appreciated, i don't want to take it back unless necessary as when it is stable it is perfect.
Guest jamidodger1 Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Something ain't right, If you don't understand flashing and that it'd properly be best to take it back to Argos
Guest RedMum Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Something ain't right, If you don't understand flashing and that it'd properly be best to take it back to Argos looks like i will have to try to take it back. it's just if I am not doing somthing right the same thing will happen when i unlock the replacement phone (thats if i can get one). It's hard to describe the fault, it's intermittent and seems like the phone is thrown off frequency, the screen looks like a tv does when not quite tuned in right, all slanted and jerky. the apps we downloaded were all common bog standard free ones which i'd imagine 1000's of people have. Anyone else have any other comments please?

It sounds like a hardware fault, I remember somebody else on the forum having a similar issue You may want to try factory resetting it (you'll lose all the apps you installed/messages etc and it'll take it make to original settings). Settings -> Privacy -> Factory data reset.
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 perhaps try to shake the phone if this correct the screen perhaps a short circuit
Guest Skillganon Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 sent it back and get a replacement. 15 apps should installed would not be doing this.
