Hi,

I'm just going to keep this short and sweet since I know most people don't like reading an essay.

I finally got an OSF/ZTE Blade today and have already installed LauncherPro and a few other apps but now I want to install a 2.2 ROM as soon as possible... problem is I haven't read all the other threads about ROMS and I don't really know much about Android at all (this is my first Android device!).

So, basically i'm asking what is the best 2.2 ROM to install? I want to have all features that are available now still working (Wifi, 3G etc) but I don't mind if the (mainly useless) Orange apps are removed.

I want the phone to be stable etc but running 2.2, if there isn't a decent 2.2 ROM is it better to stay with 2.1 for now?

What are the benefits or running 2.2 apart from the OS upgrades?

Cheers.

And those are just from the last 3 weeks...

Hint: All Froyo roms are still alpha (or beta, depending on the coders confidence :)).

Hint#2: if you have a TFT Blade, you have exactly 2 Froyo roms to choose from.

If you want stable I would stick with 2.1 for a little longer (this is what I am doing anyway)

Probably will do the same.

I'm looking for a ROM that has no problems etc just like an official upgrade or something. I'm quite happy with the phone with LauncherPro.

Changed all the BG's etc, and made sure it's not syncing in the background eating up 3G credit... ;)

Btw, should Android come with a default Mail app?

At the moment i'm just using the GMail app provided with the OSF, but i'd like to be able to sync with another account that uses exchange too and have both these inboxes in the same Mail application ala the iPhone/iTouch.

Does the Orange mail app do this? Can it only update via 3G? (I get the feeling that all the orange apps are there just to make you go over your bandwidth limit and make orange £££ on data costs... :))

as i know there is no any perfect 2.2 rom so far, 2.1 Finnish RLS3 rom is the best choice from stable point of view.

OK Cheers.

If this is such a popular topic why not sticky this thread?

Might save some people wondering which ROMs to choose from if they have little idea about Android/ROMs etc.

Does 2.2 add any speed improvements at all? I heard it enables gpu acceleration, does this just improve apps or does it make the menus a little smoother? ( is there a mod for smoother scrolling in menus?)

Other than the occasionally laggy menus mine is running butter smooth with launcher pro and stock rom, flicking through homescreens is so nice its addictive, literally iphone quality, I urge anyone with a blade to get it!

I'll remove the orange crap soon and see how smooth I can get it.

I thought the gpu acceleration was enabled on the modaco roms?

Rubbish. I'd say 90% of people here have benefited from installing either FLB or Paul's Froyo roms. A lot of work has generously gone into making these as slick and stable as possible and provided us with a fantastic Android experience. A small number of people are experiencing occasional screen lockups, but most, myself included, have never had a single one. What's the big worry? Why the pathetic trepidation over a budget phone that's almost impossible to brick? Go on, be a dare devil, live life in the fast lane, go sky diving, install Froyo.

I find it a mine field having to read the forums looking for the best and most stable ROM.

A rolling poll with all current ROMs would be useful - perhaps a weekly top 10 would be even more so.

excellent idea. it would give a noob like me who only goes by recommendations something to go by.

Theoretically yes, it is JIT enabled, which results to around double score in Linpack.

In the real life it is not really a big difference.

78% of statistics are made up.

The froyo ROMs are nice, but I wouldn't use any of them as my main ROM on a phone I use day to day. For that I would stick with something like finnish fillyjonk or sebs de-orange ROM.

I use the San Francisco as my main phone too (I don't have a fixed network) with pauls 2.2 a3 and did not have a single issue with the phone, also never had a screen freeze. For me this is pretty stable and I guess quite a better choice than any 2.1 rom.

Not sure why you'd avoid a Froyo rom as your day-to-day ROM, I've had Froyo on for quite a while, without any problems.

Im using pauls alpha4 and it's working great for me. no screen freezes or anything else i could be worried about :).

Because after testing all available ROMs I find sebs and finnish fillyjonk to be the best available.

When a decent 2.2/2.3 port is released I'll likely use that.
