I've thoroughly read the two following threads:

http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...s/#entry1433666

http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-san-francisco/

Followed the instructions off the 1st one, i've done the following:

1) Downloaded ClockworkMod 2.5.1.3 (can't find the 2.5.0.9 one) and Fastboot.

2) Turned the phone off and took the battery out, then replaced the battery, held + Volume and turned the phone on to show me the static Android logo and then plugged the phone into my PC.

3) I'm running Windows XP x64 bit so this might be the problem but I plug it in after i've done steps 1 and 2, Windows recognizes it as Android and then it asks me for drivers to install the phone which I don't have! :)

Am I doing something wrong like missing a step out or something here, or is it because I can't plug it into my computer?

I never thought this would be so troublesome, is there any software just to install the new updated OS/ROM or is this the only way to do it? Because it's not working for me and just seems way too hard and messy.

O.K, i've installed all the necessary drivers and gone into Fastboot, now it says 'waiting for device'. I've done this:

''It has been noted that if you are on windows and get stuck at "waiting for device" when using the fastboot-windows you should install divers: see http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...rivers-and-adb/

Sometimes switching to another USB port on your computer can solve the "waiting for device".''

But it still says 'waiting for device'... what now? :)

Make sure you have all the drivers by checking device manager.

If you are passing Nottingham I will do it for you.

Yeah check the drivers in Device manager, I had to install one when the phone was normally connected via USB and then install the other one when it was in the mode when you hold volume up and turn it on...was simple from there.

Yep, install exactly like you McLean 10. When the phone was on and off and still no luck. Thought it would be way easier than this to root the phone, so far it's been a right nightmare.

I don't unfortunatley, i'm trying this method now:

''ALTERNATE Stage 1: Install ClockworkMod - Flash Clockwork without Fastboot''

Downloaded the Terminal Emulator on the Android marketplace and downloaded the Universal Androot 1.6.2 Beta 5 but I don't know where to put it on the memory card.

dude, i googled "Universal Androot" and the 2nd link that came up is a guide on xda and it says

Lets Begin!

Install the Universal AndRoot .apk file [...] to the root of your microSD card

Open AppInstaller and let it locate your AndRoot .apk on your microSD. Select it and install it to your phone.

Open Universal AndRoot from you app menu. It should read your phone and show your firmware version. Click the "Root" button and let it do it's thing. It really only takes a minute or 2. When finished it will let you know. Congratulations, at this point you are now rooted.
