gprs gone post-2.2 official

um, apologies for this one if there's an obvious answer, i just ran the official 2.2 from the stock 1.6, and i can only get data if i turn on wifi. in settings/about phone/status i've got the mobile network type fluctuating between UMTS and HSDPA, but Mobile network state "disconnected". try as i might, i can't get it to hook up.

any ideas guys? i've tried turning data on and off, selecting networks to prompt it to pick it up, but nowt seems to be working :)
