Won't reboot after running USB Host Script

Help. Flashed to 1.06 and loaded Paul's R5 mod. Loaded MOD Manager and Vega recovery (admittedly through Market) and tested that and got recovery mode (with the list of options showing) Rebooted and downloaded the Gcript zip and extracted OK and added the Slave & Host scripts to Gscript. Ran Gscript and everything seemed OK. Ran USB Host script (by the way SU permissions were requested and accepted at some point in the procedure) . Restarted Vega. And nothing....it won't reboot. I have tried the steps in the Bricked Vega thread but no joy.

Also when I plug in the charger I now have a purple flashing light rather than blue - what does that mean?

Just trying to let it run down (now is when you don't want long standby life lol) to see if that 'resets' anything

Any suggestions pleeeeaaaase.

Not been in this position yet (touch wood) but the first thing I'd try to do is connect the USB cable and link it back to PC then check to see if Windows (presume you are running that is?) picks it up by checking in device manager. If it does still 'see' the Vega then there's a chance you can re-flash the device but you should confirm that you have run all the steps in Bazzlad's guide to the letter and that there aren't any errors that went undetected the first time around. If you are using other third party apps to carry out the mod upgrades I would say this is not the best way of doing things as all the tools I have used since getting my Vega are available here.

Check out the above and let us know how you get on.

Are you drinking a beer?

That seems to be the common solution to recovering a vega.

Sorry i cannot be of more help!

The colour of light seems to change to reflect how much charge you have left because when I started charging mine earlier at 16% it was purple but now it is 100% it is blue so my guess it is used for just that.

I sometimes get Other Devices - ? APX coming up in Device Manager ? Any help?

If it will not boot up the only option really is to re-flash it in the normal way with the bottom sequence below which you will already know:

Place the Advent Vega into recovery mode by:

1 Turn the Vega off by holding down the POWER button for 6 seconds

2 Once off, hold the BACK button down for 2 seconds

3 Then, whilst keeping the BACK button held, press and hold the POWER button for 2 seconds

4 Then release just the POWER button but keep holding the BACK button for a further 2 seconds

5 Release the BACK button

The only difference is that you will start from step 2 as the device is already off which should work although from my own experience you may need to persevere with it and yes beer does help.

I think APX came up in my device manager when i put the vega into recovery mode. You Might be able to reflash the rom at that point?

Thanks but tried that lots already. I would be glad to re-flash everything again despite how tedious that is. Just not getting it recognised as device in device manager. Doesn't help that recovery mode doesn't show anything on the device. I would have thought somehow I could have got slave mode back. Never bricked anything before - always managed to get it back somehow (ah good ol PCs - just take CMOS battery out....)

If I understand this right slave mode should always be available from the device being switch off allowing recovery of the device as host is not activated until the device boots.

I have been through the whole "is it bricked" thing so I can sympathy with you and I agree that there should be something to show when the device is in recovery mode.

That said I did eventually manage to get it in to recovery through the procedure I mentioned but it did take a while and my fingers when numb.

Good luck and sorry I can not add anything else to help you.

hallelujah - finally managed to get into recovery mode and reflash after trying 4 windows PCs . I am wondering if it was because the battery charge was low (which is odd as I had it plugged in mains during time I was loading the various update - perhaps charger wasn't in properly). Anyway back to square one (but at least not bricked!).

So persistence is todays watchword :-)

Thanks everybody for help and encouragement. And now I will go and have that beer (actually I think the wife says I have got to help her drink a bottle of Cava)

Now am I brave (or stupid) enough to try it again.............

Another Vega escapes being a brick! Fairly certain no-one has bricked one yet? We have had a couple of DOAs but no user made bricks.

I was brave enough - and it its easy if you just follow the steps EXACTLY (lesson learnt - embarrased face..). Now lets test

Good to hear you got it back and have managed to upgrade correctly. Now take it slow and steady for a while eh :)

This is why I'm going to wait for Paul's update to get the USB slave and host functionality - I just don't trust myself!

BTW Paul's instructions for the last update r5 (I'm on 1.04 r4) suggest that you have to do the advent 1.06 update first - I guess I couldn't just do it in one go when r6 comes along then?

I gad the same thing happen to me, everytime I tried to complete the USB host steps. I managed to figure out that I needed to make sure that gscript was asking for SU permissions, by making sure I unticked and then ticked the SU checkbox when loading the scripts. Try that and it should then work. If you don't get the super user permissions prompt when you execute either the host of the slave scripts, the scripts will not have successfully executed and your Vega will just hang on reboot. Hope that helps!
