Guest Jolsa Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) Hi, my Orange San Francisco is rooted and I put r3 on. I have tried using Barnacle for tethering, however when I press Start, I get a message flash up at the bottom of the screen "Disabling Wifi Manager..." and Barnacle just hangs on the "Starting..." message and doesn't get any further. Any ideas on why Barnacle isn't happening for me? I've tried the Settings with/without WEP, have Skip wpa_supplicant checked, and have tried it with a LAN setting of "athwlan0" (that I've found from Googling). I'm new to Android so would appreciate any suggestions no matter how simple you think they may be! Not sure if it's important but I also have Blade wifi fix installed. Thanks Edited December 19, 2010 by Jolsa
Guest Azurren Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 It is possible that that could be interfering with barnical :) Uninstall it, reboot and see if it works Not to sure on barnacle mind, froyo comes with built-in wireless tethering ;)

Thanks I have this happen now and again. Make sure your data connection with your carrier is switched on. Then re-root your SF (even if it tells you it's already rooted). I use Universal Androot to do this. Then start Barnacle again. I'm not sure why this happens but I get the impression you need to re-root after a re-boot.
Guest Jolsa Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 Thanks for your replies, will try out those options...
Guest zuti Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Hey guys. I have a question regarding barnacle apk. The thing is that I can connect to my laptop network with it, but internet sharing is not working. Laptop has no internet access. Phone does, just to be sure. Now, I am using MoDaCo Custom Rom - r4 by Paul. Lovely rom, like it a lot. But have been wondering if perhaps the problem is that it's kernel does not heve netFilder enabled (or disabled). I've tried WiFi tether apk, also from market and that one bitched about this. Just wondering. I just can't get internet access from my phone to my laptop via wifi. I've tried other suggestions with different settings for LAN/WAN. Nothing worked. I can connect to laptop but no internet. Cheers.
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 method with 2.2 roms works fine (i have a usb dongle in my pc) i use it when wired connections to internet don't work perhaps you can try with a 2.2 rom

But I will go that road once a fully working one is out. As I understand, there are some good releases, but none is recommended for 24/7 use? Didn't follow that closely, that much I have to admit.
Guest midwinter Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 i had the same issue when i installed Japanese Jellyfish. i just couldn't get either Barnacle or Android's tether to work properly. i ended up restoring the image of the R4 rom I've been using. incidently, I can't get over how easy clockwork mod is to use - thrre's really no pain in trying out all sorts or roms and then havong the comfort of beong able to go back to the one that works for me.
Guest zuti Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Strange as I am using r4 rom (this one: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...nline-kitchen/). Did you use this one or the no modaco additions one?
Guest midwinter Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 Strange as I am using r4 rom (this one: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...nline-kitchen/). Did you use this one or the no modaco additions one? i've found that the no addons rom works best for me. For me, having a decent tether is the most important thing about the SF. Luckily I've got an £10 a month sim only deal with t-mobile and this has enabled me to not have to upgrade a contract, buy a myfi etc - the speed of the data connection is really great. i'd try just installing some of the "barebones" roms and trying them out. If it's still not working you may have to think about a hardware issue?
Guest Sanddancer75 Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 I couldn't get Barnacle to let me tether my Advent Vega to my OSF. I ended up looking around for alternative programs & found one called Wireless Tether which works great for me.
