Your Sim Card Does Not Allow A Connection To This Network

I bought the phone from Orange and unlocked it as soon as I got it, was working fine on O2...turned it on earlier and now it has no service.

Occasionally the phone pops up with the available networks I can connect to, it has: T-Mobile UK, Vodafone UK, O2-UK and Orange (it had more earlier 3-UK and another one I can't remember) and when I click any of them it says 'Registering on O2-UK' (or network I click on) then pops up 'Your sim card does not allow a connection to this network'.

Also tried entering the original Orange sim card and a Three sim card but neither of them have worked either. I've also now installed a custom ROM (2.1), sure I read that installing a 2.2 ROM automatically unlocks the phone to any network, is this true?

What would cause this to happen and how would I fix it? Could it be that Orange have blocked the IMEI for some reason?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as it's a present for my girlfriend's christmas and would be a bit spoilt if it wasn't working when I gave it to her.

Thanks guys.

I'm new to all this myself but I'm guessing you've got one with a TFT screen and have installed a ROM which may be incompatible. Not sure how to revert to stock ROM to check out the stickies for advice. I'm leaving the one I got for my son till after xmas to see that it's all stable and hopefully there will be a better ROM out then.

Nope, I've got an OLED screen, and this problem started occuring before I even started installing a ROM.

Really need this sorted ASAP though :)

have you got it set to automatic network selection or manual.? i get this sometimes on my DesireZ. and setting to automatic usually fixes it. might be another issue tho.

in settings ->wireless & networks -> mobile networks -> network operators -> select automatically

it should solve your problem, if not, just do a reset with the phone

Neither of these worked unfortunately :)

Google IMEI Checker and try one of them to make sure it's not blocked. I think there is a number you can dial for Orange to get them to unblock, use forum search to locate or maybe the wiki

Hmm the one I used said it's not blocked so that shouldn't be the problem.

From searching on google it only seems to happen with Android phone, yet I haven't been able to find a solution anywhere.

It's now decided to start working when I enter the Orange sim card but not with the o2 one (the gold chip on the back of the o2 sim seems too big for the pins on the SF sim slot, but it did previously work in there).

Definately need to have it working on o2 though for my girlfriend :) any more suggestions?

I did put the alpha 2.2 rom on my phone... still didn't work. Then putted the orange sim in and did connect to one website.

Then putted my one sim in and fixed the providers internet connection info. Problem fixed!

Did you have the same problem?

It's not the internet my main issue is with, it's getting any signal at all (to make calls, texts etc.)

Running out of time here :)

I think you may have temporarily unlocked it by flashing a 2.2 rom then locked it again by flashing 2.1.

Make sure it's on a 2.1 eclair release then put a sim in other than orange. It should ask for an unlock code?....unless you already entered too many incorrectly. Fingers crossed.

Nope, haven't touched a 2.2 ROM.

I've got a 2.1 ROM running on there and previously unlocked the phone before flashing it.

Just put my mum's o2 sim card in there out of her iPhone and it seems to be working now on o2 (even though the signal level is pretty low compared to my iPhone 4, both on o2)

Hopefully it stays working now :)
