Guest rafael_r Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 Hello I got an Orange San Francisco after searching a long time for a affordable Android-Phone. I'm mostly happy with this device. There's only one problem. My Phone is randomly turning of by itself. Usually that happens when I put it in my pocket. When I try to turn it on again nothing happens. I have to plug in the the USB to turn it on. But it isn't a problem of low battery. It also happens if the phone is fully charged. I'm running Sebastians deoranged ROM but the problem was already there with the original ROM. Is that a known error or does anybody has the same problems? Or is there just something wrong with my phone? Thank you.
Guest jtzz Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 Hello, try uninstal Google Sky map. It helped me.
Guest rafael_r Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 try uninstal Google Sky map. Thank you for your answer. Google Sky map wasn't installed. Any other ideas?
Guest MrMirUK Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 My phone has been randomly restarting not completely turning off. I have the standard stock rom on the phone. I noticed it might be LauncherPro so I removed it but it still restarted (although less frequently)
Guest Gryphonic Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 On the stock rom i found mine always restarted if i put it in my pocket without turning it off first. I assumed it had something to do with the touchscreen detecting a touch everywhere due to my lrg... I haven't experimented since upgrading to 2.2 alpha3
Guest alanwoolley Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 I have the same problem as you guys, but I'm afraid to say that I don't have a solution for you. I have found that it's possible to turn the device back on if you keep pressing the power button repeatedly for about 1 second with 1 second intervals. After 5 or 10 times it'll fire up again. You'll have to wait for it to boot up again of course. I have a thread open regarding this which might offer some insight. I've posted the applications I have installed there. http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...ingly-randomly/
Guest dsmall Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 pay more attention to the effects of static electricity, my previous WM phone got the same problem when i put it in my pocket.
Guest rafael_r Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 After some testing I think it's more a problem of bad contacts. If i shake my phone the right way it turns off. But I didn't find out, how i can fix the battery in the right position. Everything I tried made it even worse. I'm not even sure if it is a problem of the battery. The battery contacts are looking well. Could it also be a bad connection inside the phone? Do I have any chance to bring it back after I removed SIMlock and flashed a new ROM?
Guest EMMJAY Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 try to tap the battery with the cover off and try to see if this makes it reboot. this happening to me, and everything with the phone was fine so i decide not to return. instead i get a pieace of paper from wrigleys chewing gums, and fold it up and slot it in at the bottom of battery so that the battery is fitting in tightly... i getting this problem 1-2 times daily beafore, and now i have not getting it for 3 whole week!!. hope this helps. -- bince.
Guest rafael_r Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 I tryed to tap the battery and moved the battery from one edge to the other. The phone turned off from time to time but i I can't say what exactly caueses the failure. I tried also to fix the battery with a piece of paper in one position. First I tried to fix it sideways so it can't move from left to right. After that I put the paper at the bottom to press it against the contacts with more strength. But nothing helped, didn't changed anything. I am thinking about if the temperature makes any difference. Today I tryed to tap the phone when it was cold (laying around for a while) but it didn't turn off. So i took it into my pocket and 2 minutes later it was off. Does anybody have some experience with cold soldering points? Could it be that there is a bad connection inside the phone?
Guest alanwoolley Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 There's definitely nothing loose with mine.. I can shake it, bash it, tap it, twist it and it still works perfectly normally. The battery and all external components are well seated. The static electricity issue could certainly cause a problem like this. Although, I have noticed this problem when the phone has been lying on a table and not touched with missed call logs showing that the shutdown happened sometime between putting the phone down and picking it up but not around these two points, which has made me consider alternatives for me. Not to say this isn't what's causing the problem with some people - but I doubt it is in my case. I uninstalled both the Blade Wifi Fix and disabled Wifi, because of my hunch that it is a connectivity related issue, and Google Skymap, as was suggested in one of the previous posts. So far (about 14 hours in), I've not had a problem. I'll obviously update with any findings.
Guest Skillganon Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Just send it back and get another one under warranty. Not worth the headache trying to fix it yourself.
Guest alanwoolley Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Just send it back and get another one under warranty. Not worth the headache trying to fix it yourself. I was almost at that point, but I thought persevering would be better - if not for my benefit, then for others. I'm glad to say that I can verify that the culprit (at least in my case!) was indeed Google Sky Map, which I think was mentioned before. Uninstalling this has solved all my problems.
Guest rafael_r Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 I sent it in today. We will see what they do. But I think it will take some weeks until i get it back.
