I have bought a Vega and thought that I would find it relatively easy to update/upgrade having done it previously for my San Francisco.

However, I am really struggling and was hoping that some kind soul would take pity on me and talk me through from start to finish. Note I have checked some threads inc the 29 page one but it hasnt helped.

Anyway, I am running Win 7 64bit and cant even get as far as loading the update, never mind anything else. When I try to run it it says that USB Device not found.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi tech_fox

I have installed the Modaco ROM on a Vista machine and also on a Windows 7 32 bit machine.

First of all I performed the (double unzip) of the main zip file which I downloaded from Modaco.

All the unzipped files were put into a folder (called 'extractedfiles') on my desktop.

I then copied this folder into the root folder of the C: drive (for easy access from the Command Prompt - see later)

The contents of this folder are shown below.

post-802797-1292708765_thumb.jpg

I first set the VEGA to USB debugging mode.

Then when the Vega USB connection was made to the PC, the following new items appeared in the Windows Device Manager:

Under Disk Drives:

NVIDIA Tegra2 USB Device

Under Other Devices:

NVIDIA Harmony

Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers:

USB Composite Device

USB Composite Device

USB Mass Storage Device

The NVIDIA Harmony device was flagged with a ! showing that it did not have the right driver.

Right-clicking on this device gave the option to update the driver.

Then browse to the extractedfiles folder on the desktop, and the driver should be found.

The 'Windows can't verify the publisher' screen can be ignored, and the driver installed anyway.

After the driver is installed, the Device Manager screen can be refreshed if required.

( Done by right-clicking on the top level 'Computer' entry in Device Manager, then clicking 'Scan for hardware changes')

The NVIDIA Harmony device should disappear, and 2 new entries should appear:

Android Phone

Android Composite ADB Interface

Then in Windows 7 go into Accessories - Command Prompt.

Type in:

cd c:\extractedfiles then press ENTER (this gets you pointed to the correct folder) - Note there is a space between the cd and c

install-windows.bat then press ENTER

to copy all relevant Modaco ROM modifications to the Vega.

Hopefully all will go well.

BTW before doing all this, you perhaps should uninstall the 'Unknown Device' in Device Manager ( By right-clicking and selecting 'Uninstall')

Hope this helps.

the update proceedure installs advents usb drivers ( this is a pain)

now you need to find and uninstall the advent ones and install paul's ones, in the 29 page thread you will see this is a common issue and you WILL find the drivers if you have device manager open when you plug in the tablet and see what usb devices it installs.

persevere and read you will find the solution.

unfortunately i cannot talk you through win 7 64 bit as currently i haven't got a copy on any machine.

I seem to remember that the drivers only work on 32-bit? Well, that seemed to be the case on one thread I read, so it could be utter rubbish. How helpful am i?!

I suffered from the driver issue for a while too but followed the instructions of welshblob in this thread

worked first time.

The whole thing was such a pain to do though I'm a bit reluctant to upgrade again to the new firmware and r5 :) although hopefully now that I have the drivers sorted out I won't run into the same problems again.

The Android Developer Bridge (ADB) is not a device so won't show in device manager it is a software program held within the directory which appeared when you unzipped Paul's update file. In my case the folder was called r4-vega-modacocustomromaddon-unsigned and the program is named adb-windows.

When you say that you have got the update done what do you mean? If the update was complete your Vega should have rebooted itself and all the features mentioned in the postings should be available to you. If that has not happened we need to establish at what step it went wrong so we need you to list the steps you followed and any error messages (if any) you got so that we can diagnose the problem.

I have done the update and applied the mod to two Vegas using win7 x64 so I don't think there is anything wrong with the drivers.

When you plug the Vega in you should get a Device which shows up in 'Devices & Printers' called Nvidia Harmony. What I did was to right click it, choose Properties, then pick the Hardware tab and click the Nvidia Harmony again, then Properties, then Uninstall Driver (if in doubt, just uninstall the drivers for everything in the list). Then unplug and replug the device. When it asked if it could update from Windows Update I said no, choose Have Disk and then pick Paul's drivers. When you apply the driver it then says that it is an ADB Device, not before.

Stupidly, I updated from myadventvega and then applied the Mod to the first device all in one go so that when I updated the second device it reinstalled the Advent drivers so I had to go through the above process with the second device again!

Hope this helps in some way.

The Android Developer Bridge (ADB) is not a device so won't show in device manager .....

Well on WinXP there is an "Android Composite ADB Device" although I understand what you are saying re the adb exe.

These are the devices I got in device manager once I'd fixed my problem on WinXp ...

- Android Phone : Android Composite ADB Device

- Disk Drives : Nvidia Tegra 2 USB Device

- Universal Serial Bus Controllers : USB Composite Device

- Universal Serial Bus Controllers : USB Mass Storage Device
