Guest spanner44 Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 I am considering buying a Tablet for my Daughter, and the Vega is on the list as well as the Archos and Samsung tab, and I am trying to find out what they will all do to compare them what is best. I am looking for a Tablet that will play the Flash based games that you see on the internet, and especially the ones that you see on Facebook like Pet Society etc. Also it needs to do streaming Video, from say iplayer, or You Tube, play the odd game, Skype and general surfing. So, can any owners of the Vega, tell me if the tablet will do these things, and how well they do them as I would rather hear the reviews of real people than sales staff on the shop floor. Thanks in advance.
Guest English Haze Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 If you buy one now it won't have a Flash player unless you're prepared to apply the updates provided here.
Guest Higgsy Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Does she have a laptop as well or is this going to be her only device. You can play facebook games (I play frontierville and cityville), but they don't run particularly great to be fair. Jeez even my dual core netbook gets maxed out with those games.
Guest diveboy2 Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) The Vega is probably the best value for money out of the ones you have listed. Asuming its the Archos 101 and the 7" Samsung Tab. My choice by a long way was the Vega, tab way too expensive for a 7" plus I don't really see the need for a 7" device as 10" sits nicely between a 4" and a 15" device (Desire & Laptop). The Spec of the Vega is also better than the Archos. If you're happy to apply the mods listed on this forum as stated above, then for sub £300 you probably wont find better. If you're thinking Tab personally I'd just take the plunge and get a iPad. I've used all but the Archos and the iPad is a clear winner at the moment (in usability) Vega when you break it down to Hardware and price. I'm sure in a few Android updates the iPad will fall short on all fronts (apart from the screen which is very nice even before it gets the retina on V2). Hope that helps PS Buy a Vega! Guest ChocolateRobot Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 I think you need to consider the possibility of waiting till the end of Q1 2011 when there should be a greater choice of tablets for you to consider, or at least some serious development on existing tablets. The current batch of tablets all have some "issues" which, depending on your willingness to upgrade, may leave you with an incomplete experience. I am guessing if this is for your daughter you wont want to be messing around with it too much. I pretty much agree with diveboy2's comments. I would also add that the Archos is a lot lighter and better designed than the Vega but ultimately older technology. It didn't feel as responsive as the Vega.
