Guest diveboy2 Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) Browse through your files on the Vega and play almost any format, straight from your HTPC etc. Nice & easy way to do this, took me about 10mins to set up.Download TVersity (http://tversity.com/download/)Install and configure as per (http://tversity.com/support/quickstart/)Add folders and files you want to view over the network in the CP (http://localhost:41952/admin)On your Vega Browse to http://localhost:41952/flashlibYou'll need Flash installed to do this. TVersity converts your files to flash on the fly letting you watch them from just about any device including Desire and Vega. It also serves them up as a download if you want to take them with you. There is a free version which I'm using or paid for versions 1 licence is around $39 or what ever that is in ££'s. Have Fun! :) Edited December 22, 2010 by diveboy2
Guest trevor432990 Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Hi Diveboy .... I've been playing with TVersity streaming but I've had limited success so far. I wonder could you post or message me the configuration settings you have set-up for streaming to the Vega so that I can compare them please? I suspect my transcoding values etc. are wrong :) Thanks
Guest gingercat Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 What's not working for you? What codecs have you installed? I've had some success with the K-Lite codec pack. Try setting to always transcode if you never connect from any other device.
Guest trevor432990 Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Streaming of .m2t, .vob, .m2ts using TVersity to Vega does not work currently. On the default codecs which come with package I believe. Attached are some screenshots of the relevant settings pages
Guest diveboy2 Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Only thing I can see is that I have the resolution set at 1024 x 600. I also have the K-lite codec pack installed.
Guest BiggerH Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 I'm also trying to get this to work, and assume I need different codec If I currently run XBMC, do you think installing the K-Lite codec oack will muck up my XBMC?
Guest PhilTrick Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Also, as a related point of info, you can use Amahi to do this. http://www.amahi.org/ I am using it to stream movies using UPNP/DLNA and the performance is excellent. The PC I am streaming from is an Intel Atom D510MO Dual core with 2GB RAM. You can also stream movies through the browser using: http://www.amahi.org/apps/videos5 It is a really nice integrated solution for anyone looking for that functionality. Phil

I shouldn't think so, but you could uninstall it first if you're worried. Let me know how you get on.
Guest Thresherinc Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 This works brilliantly thanks for the tip. Saves moving files around.

Guest schprlock Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 Hi Tried to do this but when i load the page on my vega i just get a page full of random characters Eg... Any ideas where im going wrong? Flash is missing. Try Flash Player 10.2 from the market.
Guest Squire_Au Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 Thanks for this! Although I'd rather stream natively via DLNA than have everything converted to flash. Amahi sounds interesting, I'll check it out. I tried Twonky server on my Win7 box, but the interface sucks, big time. I'm currently using media player 12 on Win7 to stream, and upnplayer on the DreamBook (oops Vega) to watch. Upnplayer isn't perfect. I much preferred plugplayer, but for some reason it can't see the server any more; and I can't get it to. Pity, cause I paid for it. One problem... watching video streamed from the computer, listening to it through bluetooth headphones is horrendous. I've read that bluetooth and wifi have problems coexisting. Ahh well, guess that's why I have a USB hard drive. And Sennheiser headphones, cable included. PW
Guest Vansphone Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 I have just tried this and after a dumb start of typing "localhost" rather than the IP address of the steaming PC found it worked well enough. Two comments I don't seem to be able to scroll down a list of files in a folder. I can see and play for first 10 or so files, but I cannot workout how to scroll down to the other files. I have played and Xvid file and while it is perfectly watchable, is there a way of improving the quality?
Guest jamsiel Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 I've been trying to stream with DNLA from my media centre, i say trying, it works fine for a certain period, 5 Minutes... 10 minutes, then starts to either pause, then catch up, or just pause and force close. I'm browsing the media sharing PC with uPnPlay, then watching with either Arcmedia or Rockplayer. I've tried increasing buffer, i've tried different files, i've tried changing wi-fi channel, but still get same results.. it's plays ok for a short while, then starts pausing and force closing or pausing then the video tries to catch up. The streaming works perfectly fine with other devices on my network, just not the vega. Any suggestions?

The streaming works perfectly fine with other devices on my network, just not the vega. Any suggestions? Jamsiel, I haven't tried Arcmedia or Rockplayer, I just use the standard Vega media player. It hasn't given me any problems... when Upnplay can find the server. Which it usually does, if I wait for it. Just takes it a while. Plugplayer worked really well for me for a while, now it refuses to see the server no matter what I do. It would be good if I could get Plugplayer working again. The only glitch I get with streamed video is the occasional stutter, where it pauses for just long enough to be noticed. Not really that big a problem. And resuming from pause or from power down, or remembering your spot, does NOT work. I have to restart the whole thing and scan to where I was up to. I tried Twonky on my Win7 box, it made no difference at the Vega end at all. And like I said, its interface sucked. Reminded me of iTunes. But why pay for what you can get for free? Windows 7 streams pretty well, as far as I can tell. I think that the DLNA player apps for the vega just need to catch up. Like pretty much every other piece of Android software. Give Apple credit where it's due... their software, such as it is, works. I'll try a few other media players, and see how it goes. One that can handle AC3 (Dolby Digital) audio would be nice, cause I have a lot of files like that... xvid video, AC3 audio. And I'm still looking for a good transcoding tool for my PC. I've tried a lot of them. This is going a little off topic, maybe another thread is needed... DLNA streaming video to the Vega. PW
Guest Budius Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 Hi, i've been using Gmote from the market for a while and it works very nice. Gmote usually is juust a remote control, but there's a beta feature to play on the device. So i just installed rockplayer to be able to cope with more video types and it's all good. Finds the server almost instantly, play most videos (dont play wmv), no image voice lag.

Guest worto03 Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 interesting, my NAS has TVersity server software built in - it's not the latest version but maybe I can stream movies straight from there? I already use the 2-player app to stream music from the NAS via the TVersity but haven't tried movies. I'll give it a try when I'm home tonight - although my orange sanfrancisco gets delivered today too so I need to get on with getting a custom rom on that thing too.
Guest blcollier Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 I found a how-to a while ago, showing how to set up VLC-Shares to stream over HTTP using a LAMP (or WAMP) server; I'll see if I can dig out the link, as it might be a nice alternative. It also allows you to use Rockplayer (or maybe VPlayer, not too sure), rather than rely on flash video. I have this setup working for my Desire, but it might need some transcoding settings changed to suit the Vega; it was written with phones in mind, rather than tablets. If you have a fast enough upload, it also allows you to stream over the internet - thought you might want to set up some .htaccess passwords :D. If I currently run XBMC, do you think installing the K-Lite codec oack will muck up my XBMC? XBMC uses MPlayer as it's core media player and MPlayer is much like VLC: it has built in support for pretty much every non-DRM codec going, without the need for codec packs. Great for the end user, but a complete nightmare to compile it all from source! (Try doing that on a single-core Atom machine!) XBMC doesn't even look at the codecs installed on your PC, so sticking a codec pack on should not be a problem at all. Thanks for this! Yeah, I'm the same; I'd much rather use DLNA/UPNP, because my TV can also stream over DLNA (though I'm having a few issues getting that to play with XBMC & Media Centre). I haven't yet played with DLNA on the Vega, so I'll give those apps a shot; I did try it on my Desire, but I remember that being pretty unsuccessful. So far I've been trying to get my Vega to mount an SMB share and play the files natively, but DLNA is a far simpler option. One problem... watching video streamed from the computer, listening to it through bluetooth headphones is horrendous. I've read that bluetooth and wifi have problems coexisting. Ahh well, guess that's why I have a USB hard drive. And Sennheiser headphones, cable included. PW I've never encountered any problems so far. The only issue I notice with my Motorola HT820 bluetooth headphones usually is a very slight audio lag. Fine for audio, but it does throw off lip-sync ever so slightly when watching videos. It does involve another encoding/decoding step though, which will inevitably reduce the quality.

However it can be done through Windows: you can find pre-built WAMP server packages for Windows, with nice graphical installers/configurators, but make sure you find one that plays nicely with (or already includes) the Zend framework.
Guest Vansphone Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Instead of using the recommended TVersity address: "On your Vega Browse to http://localhost:41952/flashlib" and instead just use http://localhost:41952 (in most cases it will be http://192.168.1.???t:41952) (so leave off the /flashlib) The movie is not convert's to flash. You get a very simple menu and working through the menu you can still play movies and MP3 files. I think the quality might be slightly better. Also I found that using this address I can play the movies on my iPad as well as on the Vega. It also works with a PS3 but I found it a bit more fiddly to get it to work because I had to open a few firewall ports to the local network
Guest robwoolly Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 just trying to get this setup. Managed to get throug the various steps in terms of adding files etc and browsing to the library from the Vega but when I select a file on the vega to play it just sits with a flashing wheel in the middle of the screen as if its trying to do something but its been like that for ages. Any ideas??
