Guest tdroza Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Interesting article in the WSJ today: http://on.wsj.com/fVvOTj I agree about Apple being a luxury brand, and the massive profit margins. Don't agree that you need in-built 3G (I have Wireless Tethering on my Android phone so why would I pay for a 2nd monthly data contract?). Even discounting those points though, I still don't like Apple's closed approach, but I can see that for a lot of users who want a device that just works out of the box and where they won't ever want to tinker with the operating system to change/enhance/update it, the Apple approach works very well (but you certainly pay for it). I guess I would have that opinion though and that's why I bought a Vega.
Guest trevor432990 Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 My sentiments entirely :)
Guest English Haze Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 +1 The fact that Apple decide that an app. that accesses any of the Wikileaks content be banned is enough reason not to give them your money. What's next on the list of banned content?

What's next on the list of banned content? Do they?! I didn't know that... That's a major part of the problem for me - I don't what Mr Jobs to police/censor the content that I can view on a device that I paid hundreds (and hundreds) of pounds for. I can appreciate that there needs to be some form of content filtering to protect children for example, and in Apple's own app store they can decide what is and isn't allowed (Google also have - albeit less restrictive - rules about what types of app are allowed in the marketplace). The difference is that on my Android device, I can bypass the market and install apps directly if I choose. It's largely a futile exercise anyway - they can block WikiLeaks related apps from the appstore, but I can access the site directly in the web browser.
