i'm planning to install Paul's alpha 4 rom with a2sd+

my sd card is fat32 2 gigs never used a2sd

i have some questions

do i have to partition the card before or after flash the rom ?

what's the order of the partitions (i think i have to create ext partition before the fat one) ?

do i need a swap partition ?

ext2, ext3 or ext4 ?

what is the ideal size for the ext partition in a 2 gigs sd card ?

thanks for the infos guys

You can partition the card before or after you flash the rom and you need the fat partition before the ext partition and i have 512mb ext3 on a 2gig card

Shouldn't that be EXT2? That's what I used.

I had problems with an ext3 partition, that clockwordmod recovery didn't recognize it as sd-ext and so no backup was made of it.

That's correct. ext3 wasn't recognized. ext2 was ok. But I can't install every app with the a2sd option, the phone reboots everytime when I wan't to install an app :-(

me as well, though I'm running on Pauls R4 Eclair untill the "real" Froyo is available...

I'm using 2.5.0.9...it can't do a Ext partition but that's the only down side, I can do that in windows with "SD Formater" and then "Partition Wizard"...

the newer clockwork does an Ext partition, but Ext3 not Ext2...Ext3 doesn't work with most SF roms / a2sd's floating around...

Hey, Thanks for the info. I managed to format my sdcard to have 1GB ext partition using the clockwork recovery. How do I put the symlink script to run with aplha3? And I do use search each time I struggle, but cannot find the exact info I need

nothing to do it's already made in the rom

The difference between ext2 and ext3 is that ext3 uses a journal to prevent the filesystem from being corrupted by, for example an unclean shutdown.

On SD cards though (as far as I know), you should use ext2 because the journalling that ext3 uses means many writes to the SD card which reduces its life.

Well nothing really happens. I created a partition using the clockwork recovery with 128MB swap. Then I installed alpha3 prebake again (wiped everything). How do I know if I have done it right. The funny thing is that when I go to /data/app i get 83MB used and 125MB free, but when I go to /system/app I get 110MB used and 97.5MB free

look at the free size of your sd ext part

install an app

look again the free size

if all correct you should have less free memory in your sd card
