Guest Hanks6 Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 this has no doubt come up before, but anyway... is it possible, at least in a browser if nothing else, to invert black on white text to the reverse? i do this on my 32inch TV/monitor for IRC because the brightness given off by a whole screen of white is too overpowering (already with minimal brightness settings). likewise, I also change my whole Windows theme to display a more greyish tone instead of pure white, decreasing the brightness for standard explorer usage. on the OLED model in particular, white on black text is a lot easier to read than the other way around. this would also save a lot of battery life. so, is there any way to achieve this through OS tweaks or a browser that has plugins or an option to change the colours? i would be very surprised if there not some way to do this. any pointers would be appreciated :) read the following while googling in relation to a HTC device: "This feature is available in the stock browser if you are running Cyanogen 6.1. You must be rooted and have a phone that has a Cyanogen ROM build available. Look under browser setting for "Invert Color"."
Guest Swimmerboy Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 I know that Cyanogenmod has a 'Render Effect' module that means you can 'tint' your screen so that anything showing up on it is a different colour (Almost like looking at your phone under a green or red pane of glass). Not sure if this can be applied to any other ROMs, but it might be a good starting point?

Guest IronDoc Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 With Opera Mobile you can go to opera:config and change the default text colour and background. It works similar to a basic white on black userscript. It's quite a messy solution though, if a website hasn't been designed to take an inverted style into account (many haven't), there's no quick way to change back to normal afaik.

Guest IronDoc Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Here's a starter: http://www.blackle.com/ :) Custom google searches are always so ugly ;) (or maybe just unfamiliar) It'll be a happy day when phones become capable of using userscripts/styles.
Guest Swimmerboy Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Here's a starter: http://www.blackle.com/ :) Lol, remember when this first came out it was advertised to "Save energy". On CRT screens it did, as you didn't have to 'excite' those sections of the screen. On LCD screens it actually wasted a little more.
