Guest aintcrackedityet Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 Hi Gang, Seasons greetings to you all. Last night, while playing around with the vega, and with a battery level of around 76%, I turned it off for ten minutes to have a cuppa. When I turned it back on, after a few moments the battery level dropped to 25%. A similar thing also happened to my inlaws vega, theirs went from 78% to 36%. Up untill this point the discharge rate had been pretty constant. Any ideas why this could be ? Thanks all aintcrackedityet
Guest Blue whale Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 (edited) same here, apparently it does not like to be put in standby mode ! dropped from 50 to 15 % for instance this very morning [this is after a proper restart as a standby wouldn't have shown discrepency] Edited December 24, 2010 by Blue whale

Admitttedly others say otherwise. Also see if you can see if an app is continuing to poll even when in standby. The annoying thing about the Vega is how long the battery status takes to refresh from standby - you think "ahh thats good - hardly used any juice" and then 30 secs later it drops quite a few %.
Guest lnux9898 Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 The annoying thing about the Vega is how long the battery status takes to refresh from standby - you think "ahh thats good - hardly used any juice" and then 30 secs later it drops quite a few %. Technical reason: if you don't want to know, stop reading. Added for completeness. From observation, it seems that Battery Level polling period is pretty long when the Vega is powered. And the polling period in standby is even longer. When you activate the machine back on, the battery level is updated using the Standby period. If and when Advent release the kernel, we can control & experiment with best possible values. So something like: #define BATTERY_POLLING_TIMER 60 #define BATTERY_POLLING_TIMER_SLOW BATTERY_POLLING_TIMER*5 Meaning battery stats updated every 1min when powered and 5min when in standby.
Guest warriorscot Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 It does use quite a lot of power during standby but the average seems to be 8 or 9% so you are a little high its probably due to an app polling as has been mentioned. If you look hard enough you will probably find the culprit although if the device is not going to be used for a long period of time its better to just turnit off.
