Guest Killersheep Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 Hi guys Got my Vega today, played with it for a few minutes setting up and love it. Then while browsing the web i see two small black blobs of dust, i got to wipe them off and they are underneath the screen :( . I'm so gutted. Does anybody know if it's easy to open them up?, i'm thinking about trying to clean it out. I really hate having to send things back it will probably be a couple of weeks before i get a new one, and i have a feeling they might give me a hard time about it.

They'll be fine about it and they are currently in stock. I wouldn't risk it for a bit of hassle sending it back

It's quite easy to disassemble actually, took me about 15mins to reach the screen.

Where there any really fiddly bits? or is it just a lot of screws? I'm quite good at opening things up but don't want to risk messing it up. with the post backlog this time of year it will probably be about a 2 week turnaround before i get one back hmmm tough decision lol

As always, do these kind of things with caution. There are 4 screws in each corner to open the back cover, and there is about 5 inside to remove the motherboard. Here is a few pics when it's opened: http://picasaweb.google.com/behnam.fakhimi...feat=directlink Edited December 25, 2010 by behnaam

Guest warriorscot Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 Doing that will void your warranty. It really isn't worth it just take it back, if you go to the shop they may even be able to work out something to get one quicker or even let you keep the one you have till a replacement arrives in store. You could also try contacting vegaacs on the forum see if he can help you as he has other people who have had problems. You get a warranty with the device its daft to void it by taking it apart as you haven't had it long enough to work out if there is any other faults and if you do that now if something serious happens later you are up the creek without a paddle. You would be left with only the 5/6 year warranty that UK law provides but it only covers manufacturer faults which you have to prove which can be tricky its not as good as the basically carte blanche standard warranty it comes with.

Yea you're right, it's not worth risking it just because I'm impatient. I don't have the right screw driver anyway :(
Guest Touch Graphite Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 I have the same thing, I thought it was a dead pixel but its shaped weird. My misses says it gets on her nerves but I don't mind it, she needs to stop playing angry birds less.
Guest dukla2000 Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 More pics here in original "internals" thread.

I dont know how you can stand it lol thanks for pointing out that thread dukla2000 I opened it up but knowing my luck ill break something so im just going to wait. it's a great device although the viewing angle is atrocious, when its on the black menu its like a center strip is black and the top and bottom are grey unless i tilt it, iv found it more annoying than the dust to be honest, i take it theres nothing to make that better? other than spending more money lol

I've come to the conclusion that the problem is the way they have polarized the glass. Don't think there's much we can do about that.
