Guest carl rose Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 Hi, first I would like to say thanks to Paul for the great he has been doing for the vega and for all the other devices. Apart from the vega's touch screen issues it is a great an powerful device. I have installed the R5 rom from this forum, I have not donated as I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment (but I intend to). Basically I tried to do it a few times, resetting the unit each time I've done it, but it always gives me an error right at the end saying that it cannot modify or access the package manager. This I think, gives me errors in google voice and maybe some other programs but that is all I managed to find out. After reading a lot on this forum and on xda dev I found out that it is because the device was not rooted. I gave rooted it now with z4root and it is permanently rooted as I have tested it thorougly. I have however customised the device in the meantime and it is exactly as I like it. My question is, is it possible to just run the R5 update on top of the last one without having to reset the unit and loose everything? Or, is there a good automated backup software to backup everything and once I reset and update it will put everything I have in there exactly as it is? Thanks in advance guys D
Guest simonta Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 (edited) You should be able to just apply r5 without reflashing first. Any apps that still misbehave, Settings->Applications->Manage applications and clear data. If you want to reflash, Titanium backup will do backup/restore for you but make sure you read the FAQs and how tos. Letting Titanium do a full backup and restore is not usualy a smooth experience. In general, just restore apps without system data. Pay attention to your launcher settings (e.g. Launcher Pro) so as not to lose your home page layouts. Good luck. Edited December 27, 2010 by simonta
