Guest praks Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 I have an SF since 2 months, rooted it, moved it to Froyo Alpha4 etc. Thanks to Paul! Despite being aware of the Wifi-Issue, I bought a second SF for my wife over Christmas…(sigh!). there was simply no other phone which was worthy enough at £99! I’ve posted earlier, the issue of the Wifi having somewhat a shorter range. My wifi signal drops to a single-bar within 6-8 feet. After 10-15 feet, ie.. the next room, the signal drops to nil and the phone automatically switches to GPRS (I use O2). However, there is no problem with the new SF. It hardly drops one bar (ie.. stays nearly at full signal), at a distance of 10-15 feet. Surprisingly, apart from the fact that the new SF is now TFT (rather than OLED) and a different software version, I find it hard to believe that there were hardware changes on the Wifi. Is anyone facing this issue or am I the only (unlucky) one..?! :( See attachments: at 5, 10 and 15 feet. The White one, (the new SF) holds on to the signal well, however the black/grey one, just drops severely. Any ideas, hardware configuration tools etc.. will be great help! (and relief!) Thanks!

(and relief!) Thanks! Just bought a new TFT SF from an Orange high street store, having exactly the same issue; the wifi reception is so bad it won't even work in the next room, despite the fact that I have an excellent signal strength throughout the house. It's so bad I'm going to have to return this handset and if replacements are the same then sadly it's bye bye Blade ;)
Guest wtel Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 I have the same problem with my grey OLED blade using Paul's MCR 2.1 r4
Guest Magnets Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 I had the exact same problem, wifi was about 50-60% the strength of my friends san fran at any point. After much hassle on the phone Orange swapped it and now it's fine (still slightly less signal strength but not much less and hardly noticeable)
Guest praks Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 erm.. are they not running different versions? on looks like 2.1 and the other 2.2? Yes, indeed they are. Just applied Paul's MCR Froyo last week hoping that this could change the situation! Still, no luck..

Swapped it for another at Orange store today, same new gray TFT, wifi strength is excellent, it now sees 5/6 additional APs near my home that the other one never detected!
