ok i installed jj rls8 now and i have some problems.

previously i had customized bladevillain and it worked all ok, but here it isnt. first thing is, i cannot connect to internet. i looked into APN settings and i manualy entered my operator settings since there were ***** (stars ;) ) on all places . and it is still not working.

i also installed hw ui and blueish keyboard and i rebooted my phone on every new install. blueish keyboard is not blueish at all, in fact there is absolutely no change. what to do ? especially for internet, because if it will not work i will go back on 2.1 customized bladevillain

and also how come the color on background in messages is white and black text, instead of black and white text. its so boring now

been using the r8 version of this rom since release i transferred over to this rom from flb r4. have to say it runs nice but the battery life is really poor im getting about 9 hours max with average use, and i used to get 36 hours max with flb r4 :/ anyone else having this problem?

also when my phone charges led is green not red, bit annoying but only a niggle.

dont think i have anything else to report ;)

I have to make 2 statements about the latest RLS:

first, as somebody wrote before, the phone gets pretty warm, when in use. right after flashing the rom, i turned it on, had the little H showing up, connection established, everything was fine. even my settings restored from google.

what even surprised me, was that my previously installed apps came back to the phone without any further intervention of mine.

as if they downloaded themselves from the market and installed flawlessly....

however, after some 15-20 minutes of hsdpa-time and some syncing, reading mails and stuff, the upper left side of the phone got heavily heated. i remembered this from previous roms when using Wifi and charging simultaneously, but this was really hot.

was even afraid of damage here...just shut everything down for some 5 minutes.

apart from that, i installed the lockscreen mod, really love it, it's just so nice to have, always looked at the Galaxy S in awe, because it had that feature in touchwiz... but now it's on my phone aswell:)

however there is still the same problem with it as with every other apn switch-widget:

after some sleeptime, the phone fails somehow to rejoin the hsdpa-network and fails at establishing an internet connection.

telefony works, but this really annoys me, even WIFI somehow works, reconnects quickly.

i still believe that this somehow relates to the kernel...

battery life is way better than with previous releases.

Please could you update the RLS8 version with Greek (Ελληνικα) kyeboard input?

It is avaiable only the Greek for the interfase but not for input in the keyboard.

If it possible as un update it will be gratefull

Yes, I noticed that too. Could it possible that the cause of heat here is AHB overclocking? Or overclocking in general?

btw. What is AHB overclocking, and why is it safe to oeverclock for such a great value as 50%. Many x86 CPUs would burn burst into fire from such overclock.

When switched off it doesn't matter what I do, it will work the same anyway, but for switched on, charging, it uses RED for battery low, Orange for medium and Green for full.

But yes, it goes green when it's somewhere around 90%, not sure when it goes from red to orange.

Now when I say Orange it's rather something like light red. Judging by the ARGB values used it should actually be bright yellow. However until I dissassembled the code I thought it was red until it turned to green.

The 2.1 source I used for comparison is the Comviq/Tele2 ROM (Swedish Snow RLS1).

If are curious you can try this from adb (assuming the LED is off when you start which means you need the non-fixed services.jar that turns the LED off when fully charged):

echo "255" > /sys/class/leds/red/brightness (this will turn the LED "red")

echo "255" > /sys/class/leds/green/brightness (now we have both RED and GREEN turned on it should be yellow or orange or perhaps in LEDs it's what we call "Amber" but on my phone it's more like a lighter shade of red perhaps a bit towards orange)

echo "0" > > /sys/class/leds/red/brightness (Turn off red and go totally green (which is someimes looks more like white on my phone which propably explains the reddish amber I get)

Thanks for the excellent work, KK!

One other thing that should deserve your attention is probably the battery issue. After playing with a few roms, I now have a theory regarding the generally poor battery life on JJ.

Though dialer partially awakes but not for long comparing to the total system-on time, so should be ignored. I think the root to the battery problem lies with auto-brightness. In low light, screen brightness only drops down to ~60%, which means brightness ranges from 60% - 100% all the time! On both MCR and FLB roms (Chinese ROM), brightness drop down to ~15%, so have a much wider range. I think the Japanese blade might be using a different light sensor than our SF, hence needs to be re-calibrated for SF.

Hope this helps.

good theory im going to test that tomorrow and report back, ive turned off auto brightness and lowered brightness to about 20%.

Hi I installed the rom around 6ish but I don't like how the keyboard buttons are small, is there anyway to change these to make them slightly bigger as I have big fingers.

EDIT- I've decided to stick with the keyboard. @ KasioPC, no need to tell you at 6ish ;)

Any reason we needed to know it was around 6ish? ;)

There are lots of alternative Keyboard's available in the market. Have you tried turning your phone to its side when typing something? Makes it alot easier.

Did you clear cache and data before installing?

What backed-up stuff (from a 2.1 rom from a different development line) did you restore after installing?

Settings perhaps ?

By the way, patience and politeness when enquiring about gifts is helpful in getting responses.

Otherwise people just put you on 'ignore'.

OK?

@ kallt_kaffe :

I'm still running jellyfish7, but there's no note about a relevant change in 8.

The concern is roaming, and its control.

I can't find a voice/sms roaming on/off setting (data yes, but not one for voice/sms)

AND

I've found some Softbank roaming debris ...

I had roaming switched on before install. and after install, it is roaming T-mobile to OrangeUK without fuss.

But there doesn't seem to be an on/off setting as with 2.1

However, under "Call Settings" there is "Roaming adapt settings" - clicking it we get Roaming adapt on/off (defaulted off) and the chance to change the 'Roaming adapt number' which defaults to 0046010.

Google doesn't come up with much in English about Roaming adapt, but Roaming 0046010 finds me stuff including a couple of Softbank manuals. That seems to be some sort of Softbank roaming gateway number ...

Sorry to dig up another strangeness for you ...

Overall, v7 is running very sweetly for me - apart from the "Connection cannot be made" messages that seem to come when waking up the phone where there is no network coverage. Nuisance in a damn fine rom. 2.2 has already been made very usable. Thank you!

Now then, about incorporating 2.2.1 Bluetooth, the DSP audio equaliser, full control of sound routing and finding out what this thing is already doing with USB OTG ... when you are ready!

If your brightness level is on automatic then the backlights on the buttons will only show up if you're on a dark environment, try to cover the top of your phone with your hand and you'll see them.

Never had a problem with my phone not going to sleep, but i'm still on the RLS5, will try this RLS8 maybe on the weekend.

Just love this rom KK, thanks for the support.

hehe, silly me - cheers :) works bitching now, wifi still drops off but think its because my SSID is hidden... ;)

Hi, I have the following problem with Google Contacts synchronization in RLS6:

When I change contact's birthday date in the phone it is not synced back up to google contacts but it is soon replaced with previous birthday date from google contacts upon sync. Can anyone replicate this?

Otherwise it looks like it works OK.

Gawd. The phone is so much better with an extra 100 mhz. It just makes all the difference for typing. Actually my one big criticism of the ZTE Blade is it is a little bit laggy and jumpy with text input no matter what the keyboard. Although Smart Keyboard Pro is the worst offender.

I wish we could up it to 800 stable. Perhaps if we add a massive heat sink off the back of the phone....

Actually with the speed boost confirms which apps are laggy as hell with bad UI.

GO SMS and Kliq messenger devs couldn't programme a smooth scrolling list if the manual for it crawled up their backside. Actually they couldn't even get as good as the SYSTEM's own list. Why not just copy that ?

If you really need it urgently, perhaps you should back up everything and restore your previous environment.

Clockwork will do a full "Nandroid" backup for you, and allow you to restore a previous backup 'snapshot'.

Taking a Nandroid backup is a really good thing before trying anything different -- so you can go back to what you had working with really minimal fuss.

The only thing Nandroid won't do for you is restore original partitioning - if you have changed that, then you'll need to run kk's partition restore installer before restoring a backup or doing a fresh install of a not-skinny (fat) rom.

I'm not sure what your problem might be.

Could be you were too quick rebooting between installs. Scripts need time to run to set stuff up properly, which is why the reboot before installing the bus overclock is needed.

It could be to do with the Slovenian data in the APN file.

I don't know, which is why I'd suggest setting it aside for a day or so, and running something that you know should work for you.

For the future, rather than restoring a backup of this install, it might be better to reinstall, and try it before adding each of the goodies ... one step at a time!

The same question for Lithuanian keyboard - is it possible?

I'm really confused about this phone not sleeping issue. I am on RLS7 and today my phone has been sleeping fine with all data connections turned off and background data still on. Previously the phone wouldn't sleep with exactly the same settings. When looking in spare parts it seemed to be the dialer keeping it awake.

Does anyone have a clue what the issue actually is? It seems completely sporadic to me, sometimes sleeping and sometimes not with exactly the same settings.

How does the phone sleep on the stock Orange ROM?

Can recommend Juice Defender..really improved battery life on my RLS7, as others have posted too:
