How to fix screen orientation problem for 2.2

After the 2.2 update the sensor on some streaks is miscalibrated which causes the screen to appear upside down and makes portrait mode available only if you hold your phone in cumbersome positions (usually slightly tilted to the left)

Somebody has figured out a solution to recalibrate the sensor. Check this out:

Here is a rundown of the basic steps:

1. Power down the phone

2. Restart the phone in Fastboot mode. (hold camera and power button)

3. Type *#301# on the keyboard

4. Type 08 (Sensor)

5. Press run

6. Pass proximity test (wave hand in front of front facing camera) and ALS test (obscure ff camera with finger)

7. Press PASS

8. Type 00

9. Reboot by extracting battery.

Thanks, that worked a treat, though I followed (and appreciated) the extra detail given on the website.

Thanks !!!

Worked for me... after contacting Dell they said it was a hardware fault!

Note: ensure auto orientation id turned on before doing tests, else it won't "pass"

OHH MY GOD THANK YOU!!! After updating to 318 build for froyo, this has been the main problem and now it is fixed! Some people thought I was crazy when I tried to tell them that my screen orientation was F'ed up, but god damn this worked! Thank you for taking the time to find this website.

Thanks Diogened,

This is now working on my 1.5.1 Steve build.

Just what I have been waiting for but now need to get used to a working screen rotation all over again. Feeling a bit dizzy now.

Thanks.

John
