Guest Blue whale Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) Hi I have a wifi router through which the vega connects to the internet. My PC runs XP with SP3 and is connected to the same router via rj45 to connect to the internet. How can I share files between vega/PC with this setup ? Edited December 28, 2010 by Blue whale
Guest godinandroid Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 I'd be interested in this, would be good if I could stream films and stuff from a nas box or my PC.
Guest rvdgeer Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 I'd be interested in this, would be good if I could stream films and stuff from a nas box or my PC. I tries with ADB Wifi anbd it works... But it's not the best/easiest way i believe... Maybe WebSharing is better for this... haven't tried on the tab tho...

Kind of depends what you mean by share... I have Astro installed with the SMB add on so I can browse my NAS drive and get to my files. You could also try using Dropbox or something like that, that works really well between all my various OS's (Windows Vista, Win7, Ubuntu and Android). G
Guest thedicemaster Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 just turn on network sharing for a folder, and access it with es file explorer in LAN mode.
Guest warriorscot Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Most of the better file explorers have an SMB module or add on to let them view files on windows based networks it works well on the vega end. There is an application called Samba filesharing on android and its free from sourceforge that turns your vega into a samba server so it can be viewed in windows and files added and removed from it. For streaming most of the streaming apps already out there will work. Gmote is what I use and it works really well and it also acts as a remote and a touchpad/keyboard for the connected pc on top of being able to access and stream files. Some people use TVersity which can stream using on the fly conversion to output flash which can be viewed on your vega or any other PC.
Guest Blue whale Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) never mind, it works well now ! Edited December 28, 2010 by Blue whale
Guest doliveras Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 In order to access a PC from your tablet using SMB you need to enable a shared folder in your PC. Select a folder, right click on it an share the folder with a name and enabling everyone to access at least for read. In you tablet go to ES File explorer, in the LAN (local network) tab click the menu key and select NEW and Server. On the screen that appears: Server: the IP Address of you Windows PC User name: The user name of a user with privileges to access the PC Password: The user password. With this you’ll have an icon to access your PC, when you clic on the icon ES File Explorer will get you a list of the shared folders on that windows machine. NOTES: 1.- The Windows PC an your tablet must be in the same network, this means each one must have the 3 first numeric grups the same, like 192.168.0.x 2.- The Windows PC must have enabled the Share folders and printers option
Guest Blue whale Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) I had to open the port 445 on my router to let the vega see the windows PC. However, whether it is over BT or Wifi, I cannot stream movies [simple AVIs] form my PC onto my vega, is this normal ? [i've got a sorry this video cannot be played] My wifi signal is very strong... Guest Blue whale Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) actually, how to see the tablet in windows ? Edited December 28, 2010 by Blue whale
Guest godinandroid Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Thanks for the tips guys, i'll have a play and post which one works.
Guest arad85 Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 actually, how to see the tablet in windows ? is there a driver to get to it as the file system is not fat/ntfs ? Search the market for Samba filesharing on android. It runs and exposes the vega as a windows share (if you have enabled it).
Guest Blue whale Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 yeah, I have smb file explorer, smthg like that, but all I can do is enter my computer local IP to access its files. But that doesn't allow me to see the vega from my PC. ?!
Guest simonta Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Dropbox is one of the easiest ways to get files on the Vega. Droidexplorer also works well. Just turn on USB debugging and start Droidexplorer. There are 2 buttons to copy files to/from your Android.
Guest warriorscot Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 actually, how to see the tablet in windows ? Read my post it explains how you do it. Lots of people seem to use ES file explorer that needs an IP, if you use astro file manager it uses the computers names so if the pc changes ip addresses it still works fine.
Guest Blue whale Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) well, smb filesharing allows me to see my PC via samba explorer, but how can my PC can see the smb server ? I don't get it. I am using astro and astro smb Edited December 28, 2010 by Blue whale

I am using astro and astro smb Which bit of "Search the market for Samba filesharing on android" are you finding difficult to understand? You need a different app to the ones you are currently using to turn the Vega into an SMB server...
Guest Blue whale Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 when you search for Samba file sharing on the market, you'll get: -websharing file = works great, -file expert= crash on my vega -smb file sharing = discussed here -androxplorer, didn't try -pcfilesync, idem -printbor, idem
Guest wicca128 Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Try orb very good for watching videos....... http://www.orb.com/
Guest warriorscot Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 There is an application called Samba filesharing on android and its free from sourceforge I told you to read my post it tells you what to get and where to get it. Failing that a google search also works quite well from either the vega or any PC.
Guest arad85 Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 You're right, it doesn't appear in the market. This is the one I'm using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...p;postcount=128
