Guest simonta Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Hi folks (NB. Before you start, this is for fun/hacking/fiddling/curiosity only. This is a complete reflash and will break your Wifi. You'll need to reflash again to get it back - unless you're one of the lucky ones with clockworkmod running properly!). Out of interest, I wanted to see what the XDA folks are up to with their VegaN-Tab ROM. It looks really nice on my Vega. XDA Devs VegaN-Tab To try it out on the Vega, I downloaded their ROM, unpacked the Vega 1.06_05 update and replaced the system.img from the VegaN-Tab. In detail: 1. Unpack "softwareImage_v1.06_05_Vega_Final.exe" - it's just an self extracting ZIP so use 7Zip or unzipper of choice. 2. Download the VegaN-Tab beta 4 ROM and unzip. 3. Replace the system.img in the Vega update unpacked image with the one from the VegaN ROM. 4. Put your Vega into recovery in the usual way. 5. In the unpacked Vega 1.06_05 (where you replaced the system.img), run lvds.bat. This starts the recovery flash process. I really like what the guys there are doing - lots of tweaks in the UI with fancy animations, full screen width notifications, very responsive, new kernel and so on. The list of changes is in their change log. There are some things not working, most importantly Wifi. I've replaced the drivers in system/lib/hw, the wpa_supplicant and init.rc from the original Vega ROM but still no good. I'm still quite new to Android - can anyone help me to figure out how to restore Wifi functionality? What am I missing? I've also contacted the XDA guys to ask if they would release their changes as a patch for the Vega. Finally, I've downloaded their source from the github and I'm doing diffs on the Vega and Vegan system images to see if I can extract and backport the changes/fixes. Full credits to Gojimi, Rothnic and Roebeet for their work. All I did was borrow it and pop it back into the mothership :-) Cheers
Guest arad85 Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 I'm confused. It looks like they have this running on the Vega, but showing wifi connectivity.

The rom is for the Viewsonic G Tablet and is based on the Vega rom... It works somewhat on the vega appearantly but without wifi. The G Tablet does look a bit different though from the vega (physically) so it could use different parts explaining why not everything works.

It's for the Viewsonic (but bizarrely with an Advent style).
