Guest massjourney Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) I have a problem that I know at least one other person has had regarding the touch screen. When I am using the vega i select an app or menu option and the software does not seem to detect i have lifted my finger off the touch screen. This resulting in the app or menu option being selected and staying highlighted, however, the option is not activated until i select it again ;) When using the keyboard I get a similar intermittent issue where I press a key and it hangs on that key and brings up the alternate character options. To get around this I either select an alternate character or the same key again (painfull). I have tried different keyboards to the stock now including gingerbread and swiftkey and i get the same issues; the keyboard is almost unusable with this problem. This problem on the keyboard is amplified if I use the DEL key to correct a mistake as it can delete all the text im typing ahhhhh! I can live with the selection issues but the keyboard is almost unusable with this problem to be frank. I have checked for dead spots and all seems ok and as I work in the software inductry my gut feeling is that this is a software glitch with the touchscreen, so I am reluctant to send it back for a relacement (i love the vega... please dont make me part with it! please help a fellow vegan :( ). Does anyone else have this issue or has solved this issue? Are there any calibration issues available to manage the sensitivity? Is Paul and team already aware of this (i.e. similar to double press issue?) Any advice greatly appreciated. Jay Edited December 28, 2010 by massjourney

Jay It's normal, seems to get worse/better depending on the weather, possibly due to poor grounding. Happens to me, _very_ annoying.

I have this issue as well and it intensifies when you have the unit charging. I am afraid this is an hardware problem but it might be software. I use better keyboard with the apple iphone theme. You can calibrate the keyboard, it does make it a bit better. I found out that while browsing to write something in a text box if I put it vertically with the camera on the right the keyboard is flawless. It's a shame it has this problem, I think if you send it back the next one will be the same. It's a small price to pay for such an excellent device otherwise. I have decided that I will keep it and hope the problem is software and it does not get worse. It has 12 month warranty so if it does get worse all you have to do is get it replaced.
Guest massjourney Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) My wife also has a vega and she does not get any problems with the touch screen (p.s. she got jealous when I told her what I wanted from Santa ;)) I was hoping that the issue was just a sensitivity issue that could be corrected in software. Based on the fact that, at the price, the build process is not as robust as say an iPad; I would expect some variance in the device calibration sensitivities - i will cross my fingers. Seems unlikely that a software fix will be able to correct a grounding issue though :( ? Jay Edited December 28, 2010 by massjourney
Guest chrishudsons Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Are you guys using the small notification bar mod? These issues all but disappeared for me with this option in my rom.
Guest massjourney Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Are you guys using the small notification bar mod? These issues all but disappeared for me with this option in my rom. Yep - using the fully subscribed rom... shame as this now looks like my vega is going to need to be replaced :(
Guest friedgoldmole Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Yep - using the fully subscribed rom... shame as this now looks like my vega is going to need to be replaced :( Have you tried out multitouch Visualizer, my Vega has an area at the bottom of the screen that has this issue, it acts like you are pressing multiple times as it seems to be less sensitive than the rest of the screen. Still need to get mine replaced.
