Its a lot better in Froyo (2.2) I haven't taken the plunge (again) yet after my last try of Froyo, I used the coarse GPS too much which was none functioning at the time so switched back. Personally I use Astro file manager to view my photo folders, not as convenient but does at least have thumbnails
Guest Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 Can we delete Gallery from the stock sim????
Guest That-Guy Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 Yeah on 2.1 it is soooooo slow but I am now using Seb's 2.2 (see sig) and it is so much faster  You should be able to delete the stock gallery using Root Explorer if your phone is rooted.
Guest tdodd Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 (edited) I've found the Gallery app to be crap on stock 2.1 and Japanese Jellyfish 3b or 4 (can't remember which one I tried). Anyway, I've uninstalled it and replaced it with JustPictures, free from the market. The nice thing with JP is that you can force download/cache of the image files and they stay secured on the SD card. With Gallery it seems to have its own opinion about whether ot not to download a file and can often take its own good time about it, even over a fast WiFi connection. Life's too short to wait for that app to do its stuff. Edited January 5, 2011 by tdodd
Guest goods Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 I use QuickPic, free from the market, very fast on 2.1
Guest cartierv Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 Gallery also seems to be one source of cpu gone wild in the background on 2.1 (Market and Internet are the others) For no reason cpu will go up to 100% until you force quit from task manager.
Guest m_w_clarke Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 If you remove the stock gallery app and replace with one of the suggestions, how do you get videos to play?? I could never get them to play without a replacement app from the Market. But I thought that was overkill, replacing one app with two!
Guest Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 (edited) Thanks folks! I'll delete it then. Any other apps to help the debranding further that arent in the large original thread that we can safely delete anyone know of???? EDIT: deleted it thanks and wallpapers still opening ok in some app but not sure what lol Edited January 6, 2011 by Guest
Guest nunoar Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 I had the very same issue on 2.1 mcr r4. Been using JapJelly for a while and it's just working perfectly!
Guest Theme Ishere Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 Didn't someone in this forum once mentioned that he replaced the Gallery with a HTC Hero's one, which keeps everything in memory? I will have a look around and try if I can find it again.
