Guest harry_m Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) Hi! The "mobile hotspot" feature _seems_ to be missing on softbank-froyo roms - at least it is missing in "settings". Go to android-market and download a widget named "Hotspot Widget" (by Harald Müller)... by the way that's me :-) Put the widget on one of your homescreens and you are able to enable/disable (and configure) the "Hotspot Feature"! ROOT IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THIS! So it will work on (unrooted) STOCK-roms as well! Happy tethering! :( Video which shows the widget in action on a LG Optimus S: Edited December 28, 2010 by harry_m

Guest Simon O Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 I'm still looking into this, but as far as I can see the tethering is still in there, just missing from the settings menu.. Use Settings.apk from MCR r3/r4 should give the tethering options back. Most likely the original Japanese kernel didn't support tethering either.

Guest harry_m Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 I'm still looking into this, but as far as I can see the tethering is still in there, just missing from the settings menu.. Well. The widget uses some "hidden" api-functions. Looks like ZTE has simply removed the menu-entry from settings. Another example is the LG Optimus S http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHEMH_5Alz4:

The widget works even on UNROOTED, STOCK softbank phones. People who have this phone DON'T even have to root their phone to get "wifi tether".
Guest Sebastian404 Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 The problem I have is that currently APKTOOL is FAR from happy with decoding the settings.apk...

Harry, it would probably be helpful if you could edit your thread-opening post to make clear that this widget is ONLY for 2.2 roms missing/lacking the tethering function (like the stock Softbank one, and those derived closely from it).

Done. Now with a pretty long thread title :-)
