I have the same issue, would really like the ability to properly stream video from my PC! Anyone got any suggestions, or another app that works better?

Ive tried loads of free apps and not got it working yet. Es sees all my files but buffers almost instantly thus pointless.

Other free apps only see 3 files or so and rather not pay. Ive googled the es problem without luck.

Surely there must be a way for this to work correctly otherwise it seems like kind of a pointless feature, you might as well copy the file to the vega in the first place? Wonder if it detecting the connection speed as too slow or something?

I can stream to laptop fine so im ruling speed out.

Must be a solution somewhere

lm testing out orb, but its interface is so damn ugly and it always over compresses the stream on lan making it too blocky. Would be much better just to stream the original file. Cant believe nobody else has tried to do this? Must be a solution out there somewhere?

Edit: OK just got orb working properly. If you go in to settings on the vega once you are connected and set the layout to mobile (dispays nicer than the home theater view imo), then change the connection speed to 9999 and tell it not to auto detect the connection speed, it will then stream in perfect quality to the vega :( i havent tried watching a whole movie over it yet, but the first few minutes were working fine. This will do for me until someone can work out a way to stream the actual files!

Not sure if I've misunderstood the topic, but I'm using TVersity and Gmote on my Vega and PC..

both apps stream pics, tunes and vids without hassle or buffering for me. I'm not currently

using transcoding (with TVersity) though, which might account for lack of need for buffering.

I have also got streaming working using Tversity, the only problem is lack of subtitles. I have the video in a mp4 file and the subtitles in a srt file. This works fine in the Act One video player I am using when I play videos from the sdcard. Is it possible to play subtitles with streamed media ?

Any solution found yet?

Also on ES Explorer, and since I have my smb server already packed with movies (so it can be read from the Xbox), don't want to have to copy it into the SD card.

Does this TVersity think work with a network server?

TVersity IS a network server. You install the server application on your PC, it indexes your files and shares them. you then connect to your PC's IP in a web browser and you can play your video files remotely.

This is working fine for me on my VEGA, but I would like to point out some stuff:

Gallery: The stock gallery app that comes with the Vega allows you to stream video through TVersity. However, this version Gallery has a bug which causes it to crash on large albums (I have 8000 images on my Vega). The Gallery3D version fro the market does NOT have this large album issue, however, it does NOT allow you to stream from TVersity. It DOES still play all of the files (XVID etc) that the Vega version does, it just won't stream them through the browser.

Rockplayer: Rockplayer works, and is fast, however the free version has ads and places an annoying "R" logo in the top left of the screen while you are streaming, it also does NOT allow you to skip through the streaming files, so you cannot continue a movie halfway through.

Stream Media Player: this app can be downloaded for free from the Market. It has NO ads, streams extremely well in great quality, and also DOES allow you to skip through files you are streaming, so you can continue from where you left off in a movie or tv show.

So, there you have it. If you have no images on your Vega, and aren't worried about the Gallery breaking, then you can just use the stock app. If, like me you are having the crashing issue, then I think that Stream Media Player just might save the day :D

Edit: I have just spotted that with at least one of my video files, Stream Media plays with no Audio :P So it's not perfect. If you have uninstalled the stock Gallery as I have, then your best bet is probably to have Stream media AND rockplayer installed, and don't set a default, so you can cover your bases.

Hum, this might do the trick...

At the moment when I'm using ES Explorer to access my smb, it just uses the default video player to play videos (I know that sentence sounds kinda moronic, but...), is there a way I can change it to use Stream Media Player?

Tried all the menus I could find, but no luck!

Goto apps in settings and remove default :D

Hum, yeah, that WOULD make more sense than an individual setting inside ES.

But after some fiddling around, turns out that I actually don't have a default player set!

If I click on a SD file, ES asks me what player I want to use, but with a file inside my smb it just assumes the default player?

Ok, that's slightly weird...

I'm using UPnPlay for browsing network shared videos for now, instead of ES File Explorer.

On my PC, I enabled media streaming in Windows 7 and added a couple of folders to Videos under Libraries.

On the tablet I installed UPnPlay

In UPnPlay I can see my PC as a media server and can browse the folders I added. When I selected a video, it asked me which player I wanted to use, so I defaulted to RockPlayer.

You legend!

UPnPlay automatically recognises my smb and I can play everything from it, and no more problems with "media does not support streaming", even Rockplayer is working perfectly and I can scroll inside the video files too!

Cheers, dude, you're a lifesaver!
