Apologies in advance if this has been asked before but I couldn't find it...

Can you root a Desire with UnRevoKed 3 and then flash a R9 ROM or do you HAVE to go down the Goldcard path? Also is it safe to use Rom Manager to wipe and partition the SD card (I need A2SD+)? I once ran Rom Manager on my Magic and bricked it - although admittedly I didn't know what I was doing... Any advice appreciated!

Yes you can use Unrevoked. However, I would still recommend creating a gold card at some point on a spare card just so it's to hand should you ever need it to install a stock rom to send the phone back for warranty. There's a goldcard tool out there v easy to use, search for it hre or on XDA Developers.

It's safe to use RM to partition (I've done it previously), obviously backup your sdcard first, although the max is 512MB from that program. If you want a 1-2gb (btw 2gb is max supported and even then I've seen some pple report issues, 1GB is plenty at the mo) then use a partition manager such as GParted via Linux. You can choose either ext2/3/4 but I'd recommend ext3 as it's more widely supported than 4 but up to you. 3 is more reliable than 2 though.

Thanks for that. I ended up using Unrevoked 3 with AmonRA recovery, after finding out about the 512m max partition under RM the hard way... Anyway I'm now all set up with AmonRA, Modaco r9 and A2SD+ with just under 2g partition. It rocks! Am I still okay setting up a goldcard after the fact?

Yeah man you can set a gold card up anytime. Glad to hear all is working. Bear in mind that backups in AR tend not to work in CM and vice versa. Unless there's been changes that I'm unaware of.

Thanks BashyUK! Yeah, understood about the backups, sticking with AR for now. One more question, and sorry if this is the wrong place for it: I have a bus/train timetable app running under Jbed Java, which is part of the Modaco rom. Is there any way to create a homepage shortcut to the app? Bit of a drag to have to launch Jbed, drill down to the app, and start it, all while waiting for the No. 9....
