Guest montage Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Got it working.. installed the file from here http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...sb-mode-hangup/ From the mirror.. And it switches and boots within 5 seconds. Got a feeling the r6 rom doesn't fully install correctly
Guest spangelsaregreat Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 Hi, What file did you replace? Your link is to this page. Regards

Its pauls mod that should of been inc with this rom but looks like it never installed correctly. Just dl and run off vega Hi That worked. I can now read a usb stick. However my Western Digital external drive is not recognised. Should it appear as the dongle does? Or am i missing something? I am sure someone else did get that hard drive to work. Regards
Guest remlap Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 What is the HDD formatted in NTFS?
Guest spangelsaregreat Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 Hi, Yeah just realised it is NTFS which I guess is no supported. Regards
Guest carl rose Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 Yes this does indeed work very well. The standalone posted in the other thread didn't work and neither did the one with the R6 update but this does. I believe the only problem is not getting the superuser permissions. Thank you for this Paul
Guest Logseman Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 I'm quite panicked right now. I wanted to switch to USB host to try my new keybopard and when I executed the USB Mode app it has remained hung in "Starting Fastboot USB DOwnload protocol". Seemingly Paul's R6 USB mode switcher is faulty, but I had changed the USB mode sometimes with no hassle. Additionally, powering off the device just returns me to the "Starting Fastboot" screen so I can't use it. Should I wait until ithe Vega's battery gets depleted?
Guest simonta Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Don't worry. Easily fixed. Check out the the original post from Paul about the switcher. It contains instructions on how to manually switch between host and slave. Just flash slave mode and you'll be OK. You'll need to able to get into recovery. Plenty of help on existing threads with that. Failing that, last resort will be to flash the Advent ROM, apply Paul's pack then restore your apps and settings. You did make a backup before you started didn't you ;) Good luck
Guest Logseman Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 (edited) Thanks, Simonta. I'll put myself to work then. My work's a bit stalled: 1)The post you refer to just contains an APK file. As of right now, I can't execute anything in the Vega itself because it's hung with the USB mode screen. 2) Is there a non-Windows dependant way of installing the image? I use Ubuntu and my brother uses MacOSX. Edited January 20, 2011 by Logseman
Guest Logseman Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 Situation is the following 1) I can't operate with the Vega itself. If I power it on, the "Starting Fastboot USB download protocol" is still there. 2) The device is not recognised by my computer (Ubuntu 10.10), which had always been recognised before. 3) Since every time that I power up the device the "Fastboot" screen appears, I seem to be unable to enter Recovery Mode. I'm liking less and less where this is headed
Guest Logseman Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 So, I've been gathering for information and ideas, and I come here to report since I was told the situation is unique. Here is a (regrettably very poor, I'm no photographic whiz and the college lightning conditions are horrible) picture of the Fastboot prompt I receive. I've tried to enter Recovery mode today in one of college's computers (Windows XP). The device was recognized as "Nvidia Android Fastboot device" after executing the recovery mode operation successfully. I was prompted to install the drivers, which I did, I was warned that they were unsigned, but on executing the Advent updater I had the following output: Pressing Enter leads to the console closing and no changes have been done on the device: I'm not told that the image has been installed or anything, the Fastboot screen is still there, and powering on and off does bring me to the same than before.

I finally got to install 1.08 properly as per the instructions. Now I'll wait for a while until Paul refines his ROM and I'll flash it again. Thanks everyone for your input!

I'm pretty mucch resigned to not having USB functionality at all nozw.
Guest wumbasa Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 hello i have the same problem but i use a Point of View mobii Tegra tablet with the Advent Vega custom rom. Could it be thats the reason why it doesnt switch to host or slave mode?
