**Danger! Melted Mains Charger Beware** (and other faults)

All,

Thought I would mention this, since I have had my SPV since November.

Got a shock (literally) yesterday, went to unplug my SPV charger from the mains and it has melted itself. Baiscally the base of the UK 3 pin adapter plug that slides onto the main charger appears to be in 2 pieces that are heat sealed together. I presume the charger has got hot and unmelted these seals. The result is that the charger and one half of the adapter came away in my hand....now for the dangerous part.

This leaves the 3 pins in the mains socket with the 2 live pins completley exposed (as ther protective part comes away with the main part of the charger) and no way to get them out of the socket (except carefully after the mains is turned off). Please beware as this could cause someone some serious damage - if it is an isolated incident then I am unlucky but if other similar aged SPV's start doing it then keep an eye out as it is a potentially nasty flaw.

If someone can tell me how I can post a couple of bad quality photos to illustrate (I have no webspace at present)

This week my SPV has also given up on staying in any profile other than headset (despite all the advice elsewhere on the forum) and that it no longer notifies me of SMS and voicemail messages (I missed several important messages that I was notified of straight away on other handsets the SPV did not notify me even after reboot and is currently in factory provided config) it really is time for a replacement. I still think the plus points outweight the negatives but it has been a trying week! :) ;)

I have two chargers and one of the three pin adaptors fit the charger very securely

so that reoving it is difficult. The other one is avery poor fit in comparison so it looks

like there is some very poor build quality going on.

A lot a members have mentioned getting shocks off the charger including myself.

Makes you wonder how it got the CE marking.

I have always had that charger noise, in fact me and my friends find it funny to listen to the raising pitch when we unplug it (its amazing what uni students with alcohol get up to.:)) The idea that this is crappy design unerves me somewhat when talking about electrics and no house insurance. So this is safe?

hehe :)

Its not enough for Orange to annoy us with broken promises, crappy customer service and a complete lack of software backing...

...they now wany to give us electric shock therapy as well!

I wonder how long before they try and charge us for it? I can see it now: "Orange Shocker package, £5.49 a month"

Not that I wish to leap to Orange's defence, but in fairness once they accepted the fault I got a new charger next day. I am also expecting a replacement SPV to try to remidy some of the faults in the next day or so. Thanks goodness for Orange Care!!
