I have scanned several pages of posts, but not yet come across this problem, so apologies if this digs up a much discussed issue.

I have just bought a San Francisco, this is my first "Smart phone". I want to remove some of the Orange stuff, and read a thread about using Appsinstaller and Universal androot.

I followed the instructions, and got a "your phone is now rooted" message and a "superuser permissions" icon. When I try to use titanium backup free I get an error message saying "I could not acquire root privileges, please ensure your phone is rooted and busybox installed".

Going to the superuser permissions icon shows "no apps in list" , and clicking log brigs up "Sorry! The application Superuser Permissions (.....) has stopped unexpectedly. FORCE CLOSE

Any ideas ?

I am nervous about using Roms and flashing etc, but may have to resort to that.

Just an update. As I had no answers, I tried using the Superboot Root + MCRi detailed in the pinned posts. It seemed to go OK, the phone still works. Droid explorer on my Windows 7 PC now works (it didn't before and the change must reflect something on the phone as I used an XP machine to do the Flashing). I still have the problem with Titanium backup not getting the user permissions, and the Supeuser permissions icon still gives me the unexpected stop message as before.

Maybe you should switch to a Pre-rooted ROM - what version of phone do you have TFT or OLE?

I may well give this a try having got over my initial nervousness of loading things from a command line.

I have the OLE version

Yes, I have tried that without success.

As you will have guessed, I am very much a newcomer to this sort of thing which is why I am findngthis forum so useful.

First, using universal androot root your phone. Then install titaniumbackup, problems button, that will install new busybox. Then install (new) superuser from market. Start superuser, on the settings tab bottom press the check su binary, and it will install a new version of su. After that everything should work fine, at least its fine for me. Maybe a restart is needed at the end.

Tried all that to no avail - still gave me the "not getting the user permissions" message.

Eventually loaded the r4 MCR and all working beautifully now.
