Guest The Sorcerer Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 Earlier today I started a topic in the "Absolute Beginners" section because I was having trouble after 'de-branding' my brand new Orange San Francisco - if anyone's interested, the topic is here: http://android.modaco.com/content/absolute...works-properly/ (or http://tinyurl.com/28fdnqo if that doesn't work). I'd still like an answer to this problem as I really don't like all the useless crap that the Orange Stock ROM has in it, but for now I have gone back to the Stock ROM. The handset is successfully unlocked and I have my Asda PAYG sim in it, but can't get on the internet - some of the parameters of the handset seem to bear no resemblance to the information Asda supply on their website. Asda don't supply or support the San Francisco yet so there is no automatic way to do this, it has to be done manually. Here's the info: ASDA mobile Settings ASDA mobile SMS Centre +447785014315 (where do I put this info?) ASDA mobile MMS Centre http://mms.asdamobiles.co.uk/servlets/mms (where do I put this info?) ASDA mobile GPRS Settings (WAP): Homepage: www.asda-mobile.com/wap (where do I put this info?) APN Name: ASDA mobile (self explanatory) APN Address: asdamobiles.co.uk (presumably this goes in the APN field) Gateway IP address: 212.183.137.12 (does this go in the Server field?) Username: wap Password: wap Session Type: GPRS (where do I put this?) Authentication: Normal (what does "Normal" even mean? We get the choice of None, PAP, CHAP or PAP/CHAP - so what is it?) Security: Off (we don't have a "Security" field as far as I can see) Port Number: 8799 WAP2.0, 9201 WAP1.x (what does that mean? Do I need 8799 or 9201?) And the same questions go for the web settings below as well ASDA mobile GPRS settings (Web) Homepage: www.asda-mobile.com/wap APN Name: ASDA mobile APN Address: asdamobiles.co.uk Gateway IP address: N/A Username: web Password: web Session Type: GPRS Authentication: Normal Security: Off Port Number: N/A Thanks for any help folks. I build/upgrade/repair computers but mobile phones and mobile internet are a complete mystery to me :(
Guest targetbsp Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) I had a nightmare setting up asda on mine. Took me a day to be able to receive MMS! I remember you need 2 APN's. Basically find the settings for vodafone and more or less copy them, changing to asda where the details differ (as they are the same network) I don't have the details anymore as I since switched to giffgaff who charge the same for calls and texts but are cheaper internet and have an app to setup android. :( Edited December 30, 2010 by targetbsp
Guest targetbsp Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 Actually I just remembered I posted the details! Enter these details to make the net work: http://android.modaco.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=1468281 And make the 2 changes here to make mms works: http://android.modaco.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=1468982
Guest The Sorcerer Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) Wow, thanks for the VERY quick reply my friend ;) I've not heard of giffgaff before but if they charge same for calls/text but less for internet - and have an app to set up android - I may well give them a go! Given that we're almost at the New Year though it could take a few days to change and get set up, so if anyone can help with the Asda settings in the meantime, I'd be very grateful. Cheers mate, much appreciated. Wow again - you've got the details up before I could even reply to you. I owe you a pint sir :( Edited December 30, 2010 by The Sorcerer
Guest mikegeorge Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but have tried these and cannot get the web working on my asda sim (or the mms) Any help would be much appreciated, as the ASDA website help doesn't make any sense to me as the inputs on the phone are different. If you can you confirm they are working it must be me typing something wrong somewhere. Thanks, Mike.
Guest targetbsp Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) Hmm... the problem is I copied them off my phone, upon which they worked, and never back from that into a phone. It's possible I typoed. :( I remember thinking as I typed the mms correction in the second post that no-one could have helped me with the solution to that because I forgot to type the ip adress entirely in my first post. ;) Edited December 30, 2010 by targetbsp

Guest targetbsp Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 (edited) As i said above - I switched providers since. :( I've updated the fixes from the second post into the first one which is as close as I can get. I'll have a read through and see if I can see anything obviously wrong to fix. [edit] I can't see anything wrong. It looks correct to me based on what I remember and the asda site. I can't re-enter them and try now as I ported the number and destroyed the sim. I'm afraid you'll need help from another Asda user if they aren't right. Edited December 31, 2010 by targetbsp
