Newbie - 1st smartphone - unlocking to 02

Hi all wonderkids, please help! Panicking here!

Bought my orange san fran from Argos today. I've unlocked it successfully according to the phone using the computer app on here.

However the stats on the phone aren't showing my o2 sim mob no or contacts or any texts? It isn't showing Oranges either actually! When I put either sim in I see 3 welcome texts from Orange!

I'm so confused???????

I have an O2 SIM too, and the SF does not show its number or SIM contacts - but my SIM might be 3 or 4 years old

Anyway, I suggest searching on here for sebastians "de-oranged" ROM and reflash the phone to remove all the orange crap

You must have put the orange payg sim in the phone for it to have got those welcome texts. Remember to sell the top-up voucher on as it is sealed and someone will buy it

Also, I could not get the GPRS/MMS setting texted to me (text ACTIVE to 2020) so be sure to see the threads a bit further down to set up the GPRS manually

Thanks mate you've put my mind at ease I'm not the only one! I managed to see posts re importing contacts from SIM so they were there all along and if the mob no doesn't show then well it doesn't show but I can text/phone and everything it seems!

I'll get onto apps and downloading/hacking soon but my o2 deal still has 2 months to run and no internet allowance! Do you think I should leave o2 and go elsewhere? Not really sure best deal out there but I have o2 broadband as well so get £5 off that a month for having my phone through them plus always been with o2.

How do I keep my phone free as such re the internet until I'm sorted re a data allowance? I hear of these smartphones/iphones doing things themselves or while you're sleeping and costing you pennies?! :(

And oh is 500mb the common data allowance enough for most? I'm free to use my wifi am i and 3g but just if I download it costs off my allowance?????? Sorry totally new here! ;)

Yeah because some apps use background data which can easily be turned off so that they dont, they say that its enough but you've got to be a verry light user not to eat into it because you'll find that it goes rather quickly! using the wifi wont cost you anything but surfing and downloading on 3G will eat into your allowance.

As for the best deal it depends on how heavy a user you are, if you hardly use your phone for stuff then yeah staying with o2 is probably best but if your like me and are a heavy user of the internet on your phone and constantly worry about how much allowance you've used then i suggest you give my signature a click (the free sim with £5 credit) and get yourself a giffgaff simcard, for £10 you can have 250 minutes, unlimited txts to any network and unlimited internet and yes that internet is unlimited not this "get unlimited internet -small print- 500mb" crap that they do, plus if you topup at least every 3 months then txts and calls between giffgaff members are free =) and you'll be happy to hear they run on the o2 network.

they do other things for £5 you just get unlim txts, £15 300min unlim txts unlim internet, £20 600 min unlim txts unlim internet
