Guest mrhankey4932 Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 ok probably a stupid question but dont flame me as this is the first android device i have owned why cant any updates take the form of a zip file which you can download on the actual device ?though settings.software tool.software update as in the lite software update on the myadventvega website?also why dont advent go down this route rather than having to go in to recovery mode and installing drivers etc?
Guest rvdgeer Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Excellent question... I thought about this a few days ago, but forgot to post the question... It looks lik the built in software updater is kinda like ROM Manager and Clockworkmod... (But safer :() Anyone willing to try an update.zip? I haven't got one ready, but I'm sure you'll be able to find one... Maybe you can download one from this thread, rename it to update.zip and flash it using the software tool... Not sure if it's safe so: I DON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS! ;)

For the hell of it i tried pauls signed package but that failed too. Note i have clockwork installed though.
Guest Higgsy Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 you need a failsafe route and flashing the rom via a package from the PC is that failsafe, android updates are provided OTA on phones, which in theory just downloads an update.zip and then applies it, but these are signed by the manufacturer. Clockwork mod doesn't require update.zips to be signed, I have created a few to test and have flashed them no problems.

What i dont get is that I downloaded the r6 from the kitchen and rebooted to clockwork, selected install from sdcard and selected the file in my downlad folder and it aborts with 'bad'. Could you tell me how clockwork is meant to work please?
