Guest alert_bri Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Hello everyone, I've been trying to optimise the performance and battery life of my Dell Streak using Stephen's Froyo v1.5.1. So far, the best I've found is to use SetCPU to set the 'conservative' power governor with the range 245-1190Mhz... I'm also switching off wifi and bluetooth when not required and trying to disable background polling from news apps. This is all fine, but I don't know how my battery performance compared objectively with others who e.g. report '10 hrs and I still have 80% battery'... I've just discovered an app which could help us to share some useful starts, to hopefully find out who is getting the best out of their device, and how they are configured... Download Battery E.T.A. and share the 'Current discharging velocity' here... My CDV is 13.3, and Estimated Operating Time is 06:51:01... How about you? Thanks for sharing Brian
Guest theewz Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 CDV is 8 Estimated Operating Time is 11:22.30
Guest zigzagindex Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 CDV is 8 Estimated Operating Time is 11:22.30 mine is 03:50, what does it mean?
Guest alert_bri Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 mine is 03:50, what does it mean? If that's your Estimated Operating Time, then there's plenty of room for improvement! What do have for 'Current Discharging Velocity'? I think the estimate is supposed to become more accurate after a few days use... Cheers Brian
Guest T_r_i_s Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 CDV is 8 Estimated Operating Time is 11:22.30 Exactly the same for me on both
Guest wrightc88 Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Exactly the same for me on both  Yeah, same here 11:22:30.... Odd all three are the same lol
Guest alert_bri Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Yeah, same here 11:22:30.... Odd all three are the same lol Let it run for a day and let us know if it changes? Mine has gone down quite a bit! Cheers Brian
Guest pjg_pigeon Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 Exactly the same for me on both  +1 just installed but will keep a check on this over next few days.
Guest alert_bri Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 +1 just installed but will keep a check on this over next few days. My Estimated Operating Time has come back up to 10:35:29 after a couple of days use... It would be nice to see future builds improve on this, but I can live with it for the great responsiveness and stability I'm getting with v1.5.1. Cheers Brian
Guest alert_bri Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 Just installed Stephen's Froyo v1.5.2 and my Estimated Operating Time has gone to 22:13:09. I've only been using lightly today, but still this is looking very promising! Cheers Brian
Guest wrightc88 Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Mine is up to 19:36:56 with WI-FI, full brightness, and moderate use today. I do have a Mugen Power 1800mAh, phone has been discharging since 10:29 AM and my E.T.A. is 9:00 AM tomorrow.
Guest T_r_i_s Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Let it run for a day and let us know if it changes? Mine has gone down quite a bit! Cheers Brian Left it running (not used the Streak since Friday, just been in airplane mode) now says: CDV = 0.6 EOT = 142:58:16

It would be interesting to see how long you'd get with gsm switched on. Thanks for sharing Brian
Guest waythinks Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 (edited) CDV 1.7 estimated operating time 52.48.16 Normal usage but when I dont use I just turn 3g and wifi off, gps permanently on, brightness occassionally to full but normally to lowest. Rebooted phone twice, install stuff, facebook, youtube, etc. P.S. Im on official 318 Rom.with applied performance. Battery sitting on 15% Edited January 3, 2011 by waythinks
Guest Radimus Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=8457 Obviously turning off radios that aren't needed like wifi/data/GPS/BT unless you actively and constantly use them are the first step... turn them on when needed and off all other times. Display brightness to the lowest you can stand... mine is usually at 12% unless I am in direct sunlight Use SetCPU to scale back processor speed. The Streak pulls stock Quadrant scores around 600, anything higher than that is bonus, but not needed for general use. Use Juice Defender to disable radios while screen is off Use NoBars to go into airplane mode while in no signal areas disable WiFi scanning when not necessary Disable Active Wallpaper, it is flashy but does little beyond using CPU Disable active widgets... like Facebook and twitter and other RSS reading widgets that work in the background... Nothing like updating a weather or facebook widget every 15 minutes when you haven't looked at the phone for 4 hours. Use SystemPanel to detect running apps and the Memory and CPU load, look for running apps that you do not use and disable them by either uninstalling them or renaming/deleting the APK (requires Root). On the stock 318 ROM, I renamed the following APK files as I did not use them YMMV: Amazonmp3.apk, com.twitter.android.apk, copilot.apk, neroDellSync.apk, PageOnce.apk, RoxioNow.apk, zinio.apk
Guest alert_bri Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 CDV: 3.0 EOT:30:47:18 That's excellent... Was the performance maintained to the end of the 30+ hour period? Did you do anything to consciously reduce power usage? Are you using the standard battery? Cheers Brian
Guest TheSacredSoul Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 (edited) Been using Battery ETA for about 2 days+ now. CDA : 2.9 EOT: 31:25:13 I just use Advanced Task Killer to kill all apps regularly. SetCPU set at 245min and 1190max. Have 2 profiles. Battery below 20% with 460max and 245min and Screen Off with 576max and 245 min. Also have setup AutoKiller Memory Optimizer with the preset 'Aggresive". And using standard battery too. I think this will give the best results for me. Cheers Brian
Guest alert_bri Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Still trying to get my Streak under control! Lol my best performance is 44:33:53 with Stephens v1.6. I used Spare Parts, and Battery History-> partial wake useage to discover that a clock widget was eating battery power... And discovered a much better one in gtab SiMi. I've also dropped my Max CPU speed to 1036 Mhz. Cheers Brian
Guest T_r_i_s Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Personally, the thing that has increased my battery life the most has been disabling 'Background data' in Accounts & Sync Settings. If you don't use Gmail try it out..(you also need Bd to be enabled to access the Market, but you can just switch it off afterwards). Reckon it gives me about 20% extra battery...
