Guest whatkatedoes Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Hi - wonder if anybody has any advice short of returning my beloved Vega  I've been using my modaco r5 equipped Vega for a while now, loving every bit of it. Tonight I was merely contemplating putting on the R6 rom, and/or a bootscreen... but never acted on any of these EXCEPT performing the inbuilt backup software thingie (as opposed to any third party app) This proceeded then went to a blank screen (but backlit) - which I thought was normal - a reboot possibly... only it didnt. I left it a while.. but nothing. I then powered it off via a 6-second hold of the power button. Switched it back on... backlit screen.. nothing. oh oh. Tried this a few times.. no luck. Getting quite worried now... Got the power cable, attempted to initiate recovery.. nothing.. tried a few times.. nothing, not a twitch in the windows device manager.. tried on 2 laptops... nothing. WAHHHHHHHHHHHHH I'm most depressed because I didnt do anything BAD! I never got a chance to!

WAHHHHHHHHHHHHH I'm most depressed because I didnt do anything BAD! I never got a chance to! I doubt it is completely bricked/dead, just keep trying to get into recovery. I've been there before and with a bit of perseverance I managed to get in and flash the official ROM (took nearly an hour of trying). Make sure it is powered, fully charged and keep your fingers crossed!

Guest whatkatedoes Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 so it is plugged into the mains power then? Yup. Going to keep trying for now, but will probly fire off an email to customer services tomorrow - not that anyone will be there lol
Guest Higgsy Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Yup. Going to keep trying for now, but will probly fire off an email to customer services tomorrow - not that anyone will be there lol even if it doesn't look like its gone into recovery try doing the back/power process and once done try executing the firmware package on the PC and see what it says in the cmd prompt
Guest simonta Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Thought I'd bricked my Vega twice and have on occassion had to try to get into recovery many times over an hour or two. I also know that using only the Advent ROM flashes and Pauls stuff, you can't brick a Vega. I'm so used to it now that I've built up this kind of finger waltz that gets me there 99% of the time first attempt. Kind of a 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3 release. Try it. Saying "1-2-3" in a waltzy style in your head is pretty close to 2 seconds. Kodak one, kodak two is also pretty accurate. Photographers used to use it in the old days to time exposures when developing prints. Sorry, I digress. I've found that on the occassions when it doesn't behave, holding down power for about 8 seconds (to make sure it really is off), releasing, then holding back down for about 4 seconds helps. It's all to easy, when your first go fails, to think it's powered off when in fact, it's only snoozing. No idea why, maybe drains down some residual electrickery somewhere in it's bowels - or maybe it's a bit of OCD creeping in? Just keep at it for a while, it WILL come into recovery eventually and some perserverance has got to be a good investment compared to possibly having to wait weeks to get a replacement. Good luck and Happy New Year.
Guest whatkatedoes Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 (edited) THANK YOU GUYS! Tabby (my Vega) - SHE LIVES :D Was trying.. and trying... and trying different combinations of different starts.. when I heard the joyous BA-DONK from the laptop detecting a device being attached B) Stock firmware re-applied... now to get back to the business of trying to break it again :D Glad my new years eve wasnt ruined by the notion of having to wander in to Currys next week forlornly with my vega and a receipt  Happy new year to everyone :o Edited December 31, 2010 by whatkatedoes
Guest Dayzee Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 So glad you got sorted, so blooming rattling when stuff like that happens. :-) also good to I'm not the only one who has a name for their Vega. :-) Mine is called Vincent Vega. Xx
Guest warriorscot Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Glad you sorted it out, biggest problem is lots of people read "hold for 2 seconds" and think that is the same as just holding it counting to two and letting go.
Guest debs626 Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 Phew ... welcome back Tabby. I use the stock backup and restore utillity all the time and never have a prob with it, I'm probably gonna hold my breath the next time I backup B) I'm getting the impression these Vega's have the mentality of stroppy teenagers that throw a tantrums radomly :s Appy Nu Year xxx
Guest danielj58 Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 The Vega is pretty much unbrickable. I've foolishly flashed all sorts to mine and thought it had seen its last day, but with a bit of persistence it pulls through. The worst times are when the back light doesn't switch on, and you have to try work around the shiny glass and see the screen. None the less, nvflash is invincible
Guest terminaljunkie Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 A shame that they cannot put a light on, or a simple screen message saying 'Recovery Mode' when the Vega is in said mode. Would remove all doubt.
