Guest umster Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 (edited) Hi Guy's and girls, I received my upgrade yesterday, my new HTC Desire HD from t-mobile. B) . I got the unlocking code from t-mobile, so it's unlocked now Android version 2.2.1 Build Num: 1.75.110.2 CL301245 Now that I have it in my hands I want to customise it, so that it performs much faster and more efficiently. Please can I ask for your help in doing this. I've been reading and reading about custom rom's, rooting and over-clocking this superb handset. so my first question is  1. There are so many custom rom's out, is there a list of them like the one on the ZTE-blade thread so that we can read about the differences. can you recommend which rom to use. ??? and how? 2. what does rooting do? 3. how do i over-clock this handset? Thank you in advance for your time, patients and help. Happy New year to you all  Edited January 2, 2011 by umster

Guest LoneThread Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 From what I've read recently you can't root your phone at the moment because its running latest ROM. (Read the Visonary+ Topic for more details) I've seen no reason to root or install a custom ROM on my DHD, it came with HTC Stock ROM and I'm happy with it, so I can't really advise further.

Hi, thank you for taking the time to reply back. Which network did your DHD come on? mine is on T-mobile so they have added their extra good stuff on it, which I want to remove!! all the best
Guest Skull Drome Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 (edited) I've got my Desire HD Sim Free, so it didn't really come with anything other than the things pre-installed by HTC, and the only thing that appeared when I put my T-Mobile Sim in was the Sim Toolkit, which I find is handy for checking my balance (On pay as you go). As for rooting, as LoneThread said, The recent update HTC pushed seemed to thoroughly patch the vulnerability that Visionary+ exploited. As far as roms go (although I can't provide any feedback on specific ones, as I haven't done this myself), from what I've read over on xda-developers, there's quite a few to choose from, depending on whether you want to keep sense UI or not. From what I've heard, the two good ones are LeeDrOiD HD (Sense) and CyanogenMod (Non-Sense). There is a list of roms maintained on the wiki, here. Also, overclocking, the way I would do it would require root access, although you will find some roms are pre-overclocked. When we get root access back, You'll want to get SetCPU. Thank you for your response!!! now it all makes more sense. Is Visionary+ the only way to root the DHD or are there other ways? is this temp or perm much appreciated!!
Guest Skull Drome Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Thank you for your response!!! now it all makes more sense. Is Visionary+ the only way to root the DHD or are there other ways? is this temp or perm much appreciated!! :( Sorry for the delay, I've hardly checked over here on MoDaCo in the past while. At the moment, visionary+ is the only way that I know of to root, although a lot of custom roms are pre-rooted (I'm running CM7, and I've got root without needing to install visionary+ again), and it has options for both temp and perm. I actually did the whole business of downgrading, rooting, and flasing a new rom recently, it's fairly straightforward. Once you've downgraded, you can install Visionary+, and once you've permrooted with that, you can install ROM manager from the market and use that to flash ClockWork Mod recovery. From there, it's just a case of downloading and flashing the rom through clockworkmod. :D Hope that helps :(
