Hi all,

I have some problems rooting/flashing a new OUK_P729BV1.0.0B08 that I bought for a family member. When I power on with volume up pressed and connect the phone to my Ubuntu 10.04 box, it isn't recognized. I can't see any ZTE device with lsusb and /var/log/messages only states the following:

Jan 2 12:50:24 ubuntu kernel: [ 5365.084362] usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2

Jan 2 12:50:24 ubuntu kernel: [ 5365.222551] usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

Connecting the phone in mass storage mode (when it is booted up normally) works fine though.

So I tried to use the second method (using Teminal on the Blade itself). Installed and fired up UniversalAndroot-1.6.2-beta5, selected softroot, but after that, I don't get any prompt in the terminal. Also, the phone seems to get very hot and task manager refuses to start because the device is used to full capacity.

On my own OUK_P729BV1.0.0B05, the second method worked without problems. Any idea how to get this thing rooted & flashed, preferably with method 1 (fastboot / adb)?

Did you add any udev rules on your PC?

Yes I know.

Sure, but atm it is still on the stock orange rom and I want to get rid of it.

no no udev rules

d00d it seems it only see the sdcard

perhaps you can try to boot with live cd and see what it say

(to see if the problem come from you installed linux system)

I already tried on 2 different machines, same thing.

I doubt that since I had the same problem with my OLED phone. But there I was able to use the second method (universal androot and terminal on the phone itself).

OK call me stupid: All the time, I tried to connect to the phone with adb instead of fastboot. Obviously, this only works when the phone is booted normally.

Got it sorted now, yay! B)

Don't use the beta !

Don't try to softroot.

Use the earlier version (it works) - yes, its 'hard' rooted, but you are just about to overwrite the whole thing, aren't you?

UniversalAndroot-1.6.2-beta5 with softroot worked fine on my OLED blade, but on the TFT it oviously doesn't.

I already did overwrite it with Finnish Fillyjonk using fastboot.
