Guest przybylak Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Hi, Hoping for some help with / diagnosise of a problem which has had me chasing my tail for more than a week. Device = Orange San Francisco, appears to be OLED version (supposition - it was already flashed to a custom ROM when I got it). The issue is that the screen starts to freak out as soon as the touchscreen interaction goes beyond a simple tap. The most reliable example is when you long-press on the screen (just in the launcher). For example, to attempt to drag and drop a widget or icon, or when you want to add a widget / wallpaper, etc. Also occurs after a few scrolling efforts. The symptoms include a 'shaky' screen, which looks like it's having a fit, failure to recognise input (such as a tap or swipe), and incorrect recognition of input (you tap one place and it registers in another place). Occasionally the screen freezes completely. The hard buttons work with no problems at all. Turning the screen on and off can give greater recognition for about 10 seconds. Re-booting (by removing the battery and powering on - the only choice as it's extremely hard to select the power off options once this error occurs) temporarily solves this problem. It will re-occur as soon as the touch input becomes too much for it again. I have tried so much it's not funny any more. In my latest efforts I pushed Clockwork 2.5.0.9 using fastboot, wiped / formatting every damned option available, and flashed to stock B05 (Paul's version). No impact / help. I have previously tried B08 and a number of both 2.1 and 2.2 ROMs. Nothing helped. The one thing I haven't tried is flashing a fresh kernel, mostly because I've never done it and haven't seen one posted on its own, but I believe B05 should have done that? At the moment I'm thinking this is a faulty touchscreen. Sound right? Any thoughts at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Guest Ash_P Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 At the moment I'm thinking this is a faulty touchscreen. Sound right? Yes, it's a faulty digitizer. Download something like Multitouch Visulizer 2 and you'll see the problem. You'll usually find a part of the screen that is senstive to a long/hard press and then the input goes mental. (I had the issue when I pressed with reasonable force just left of the down volume control).
